Well, your GPA is below average, your test scores aren't spectacular, and your activities seem to be good. What are your SAT scores? What activities did you do? You need to be more detailed.

Otherwise, being black and from the south will help you out. But I noticed the $14,000 income. Honestly, NYU is one of the most expensive schools in America, upwards of $50,000 a year. If accepted, you can certainly get aid. But if you needed anything extra, you generally need to be absolutely spectacular for NYU to give you money to attend. This is the part I would be most concerned about.

It doesn't matter what we think on the board only NYU admissions. Look at the ED thread. Some got in who we lucky, some got rejected who thought they were in.

I don't know how I got in with my low gpa, but I think it had something to do with the recommendations and the essay. If you write a really impressive essay, have teachers that can write you a truly honest recommendation, and do well on the personal statement than I think you've got a pretty good chance.

Luna they must've been impressive, and I think it's the writing that got me in as well...but for every kid that got accepted to NYU with under a 3.4 there are 100 that didn't

your income doesn't matter. nyu is need blind. however, they have a notorious reputation for giving little aid, so that might be your issue there. but i'd say apply anyway, and see what kinds of aid they offer you.

hmm. i think if you had either a high gpa but low test scores or vice versa you could have a shot. the fact that youre not from the northeast and not exactly the typical student could help you, but i dont know if it makes up for the fact that your gpa is a little low and less than 25% of students had lower than a 27 act. if your school is very competitive, maybe your gpa will count for more

i got rejected from CAS early decision and had a 3.3 gpa and a 30 on the act, lots of clubs, etc. however, im a white girl from philadelphia. im actually really bitter about how they let people in who have lower stats than me just because of their ethnicities...but thats another story. there are people on here who were accepted with similar stats, so you really never know.

Don't underestimate the URM from the south thing...first generation...thats good for a few points on the ACT..you have a shot that your white colleagues might not. I'll give you a fighting chance. Good Luck!

I don't know, I think maybe the essay might be a deciding factor, because it could swing either way. Which makes me wonder, what makes your essay "AMAZING"?
