I was accepted at NYU Liberal Studies Program (I applied to this program originally, I wasn't placed here after being rejected from a different school) and Colby College. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of life or academics at these schools that could help me make a decision. Here are some specific questions I have but any tidbits of information you know would help me immensely.

Does the NYU LSP program allow for double majors?

Which school has better teachers overall?

Does one school have a better English program than the other? Economics?

How is the transition between LSP and whatever school you enter after sophomore year
at NYU?

What sort of diploma do LSP graduates receive? Is it indicated on their diploma that they
attended LSP first and then (for example) CAS, or do they just receive a standard CAS
diploma?

What is student life at Colby like? If someone isn't huge on sports (including skiing), how much
does that limit their experience?

How easy is it to avoid drinking/drugs at both schools?

If anyone has answers to these or any other information, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you!! :D

bumppp please help!

I’m sure there are plenty of people at Colby that are not into sports. As you can tell from (this easily found list) of Colby student organizations, there is plenty to do:
[Colby College | Office of Campus Life | Student Clubs](http://www.colby.edu/administration_cs/campuslife/student-clubs.cfm)

As to avoiding drinking/drugs - you would have that issue on any college campus. It is easy to find people who don’t drink or do drugs for you to hang out with.

Biggest difference between the two schools, I believe, is the environment. Colby is a small LAC of under 2000 students in Waterville, ME vs. NYU, a big university in a big city. Where would you feel more at home? My daughter is a sophomore at Colby and I can answer some of your questions about that school. Many of the students participate in sports whether it is on a varsity team or i-play (Colby’s intramural program); however, you will not feel left out if you don’t participate. First year orientation includes an outdoor overnight trip. It can be mountain climbing but they also have trips such as yoga and painting. Vast majority of the kids are engaged in some activity other than academics. It’s what my daughter loves about Colby - the kids are interesting. Almost all students live on campus. Waterville, while not in the middle of nowhere, however, is not NYC. I don’t know too much about Colby’s English department but all students do need to take a writing class or place out. Economics is a big major at Colby. I am sure you can’t completely avoid drugs and alcohol at either school, but Colby does have substance free, healthy living and quiet dorms you can choose to live in. My daughter finds everyone very friendly and accepting.

I assume from your name that you are from Boston. Can you get up to Colby for an overnight visit and stay in the dorms and take a first hand look? And NYU is a train ride away.
