NYU merit aid for middle/upper class

So I know there are many threads about nyu’s financial aid, but still trying to figure out how much to expect – I am a high stat student (1580 SAT, 1/174 in my class) but attend a private high school (on scholarship) and have EFC of around 50K. Will my higher EFC (and thus low eligibility for need-based aid) hinder my chances for decent merit aid?

for addtional info, I’m very involved in school extracurriculars as well as on an advisory council at Hopkins Childrens Center (service & leadership work). I feel my application was strong with a (hopefully) impressive commonapp essay and supplement essay

Merit aid at NYU is almost always given to students who also have financial need. So the answer to your question is yes, your low-need / higher EFC will hinder your ability to get merit aid at NYU.
