NYU, NYC, and football

I was just wondering, what football team do NYU students (and the NYC population in general) follow and cheer for? I know NYC has two NFL teams, the Jets and the Giants, but I heard that the stadium is in New Jersey and most of the fans for both teams are from Jersey and outside NYC. I would like to know, since I am a huge football fan. As of right now I am only a college football fan, but if I go to NYU I know that there will be no college football. But I still want to have a football experience, so I am willing to start following the NFL. So I want a nice football team to root for, attend games for, etc. A team that will represent my new home.
Also, how far is the Giants Stadium from NYU's campus?

Thanks.

Most NYers have strong preferences for one team or the other, and you’ll have plenty of time to pick one over the other once you get here.

On the other hand, actually going to a game (both teams play in the same stadium) will be a bit of a problem for you, not so much for transportation (here is a link: [parking_authority - Giants.com](http://www.giants.com/parkingauthority.asp) - it’ll take you about 45 minutes from NYU on game day), but for actually getting the ticket. The Giants have 25,000 people on the waiting list, but you can find tickets on some of the ticket reselling sights - the cheapest tickets list for $80. I didn’t look up the Jets info, but it is easy to google.

You’ll also find that the NFL football experience is not at all the same as the college experience - if that is REALLY important, NYU is not really the school for you.

G-men all day!!!

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, my other choice (USC) 's financial aid didnt work out, so I am now 100% attending NYU next year. So I’ll have to make do with what I have.

Also, do NYU students get discounted Giants or Jets tickets?

Even though NYU doesn’t have a football team, you can watch the football teams of Columbia, Pace, and Fordham in the city. Or, you can take the NJTransit train to New Brunswick and catch a Rutgers game (good luck getting tickets though).

As for teams, I get the impression that people cheer for the Giants more, but that might be just because they win more. Ticket Central often has discount sports tickets (Devils, Rangers, Knicks, Mets, etc.). I’m not positive if they have football tickets, but I would assume that they do.
