SAT II: 770 French, 700 Literature, 670 MII
Act: N/A
Unweighted GPA (Out of 4.0): 3.5
Rank: My school doesn’t do that
No AP classes, full IB curriculum
Senior Year Course Load: Most rigorous (HL Chem, HL Math, HL English, HL History, SL French A2, SL Physics, TOK, Multimedia)
Major Awards: Presidential Award for Academic Excellence
Extracurriculars: Too many to describe; lots of community service, behind the scenes for plays, technology-related activities, lots of clubs, writer for the school Honor Code, Head Publisher for school newspaper, MUN, translation at a major event… Your typical prospective NYU student’s EC’s, I guess
Job/Work Experience: Volunteer translator
Summer Activities: None that are significant
Essays: I wrote about how the conditions of my country (Morocco) have been gradually improving, and used it as a parallel to my own development both as a teenager and a student. I also wrote about how I overcame my fear of public speaking by taking MUN as a class and volunteering as a translator. I literally wrote it the night the application was due, but I’m proud of it.
Teacher Recommendations: Were confidential, so I couldn’t read them. I’m sure, though, that the teachers wrote outstanding recommendations because they love me.
Counselor Rec: Didn’t read.

Decision: Accepted - Steinhardt
Objective: [ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2230 …don’t remember exact breakdown numbers but 700+ for each section.
[] SAT II: 780 on literature, 660 math 1
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): we don’t do them, but around a 3.5 ish
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): euro (3), english language and composition (5)
[] Senior Year Course Load: 4 AP/IB classes, 1 regular, 1 elective, plus TOK (which I take though I’m not a diploma candidate)
[] Awards: national merit commended
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): President of 2 clubs, member of 2 others, school tour guide, writing awards, and visual artist.
[] Job/Work Experience: I held a steady job all through high school, including during the year and summers, about 10 hours a week.
[] Volunteer/Community service: ten-fifteen hours per school year
[] Summer Activities: I worked, mostly. Though I did go abroad one summer for a few weeks, but that didn’t appear in my application at all.
[] Essays: My Common App essay took the form of a descriptively written, almost creative nonfiction-esque piece. Slightly untraditional, but highly personal, and a tad emotional. Personally, I thought my NYU-specific essays were easily the strongest and most honest essays I wrote for any of the colleges I applied to, and the set of three I saw as really cohesively successful in showing why I’m perfect for both NYU and the major I applied to.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I had two. One was at least solid; the other was definitely stellar.
[] Counselor Rec: I’m close with my counselor, who also has taught me for two years. He said it was one of the best recs he’s ever written.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yessir.
[] Intended Major: Media/Culture/Communications
[] State (if domestic applicant): Jersey
[] School Type: Independent
[] Ethnicity: Biracial. I’m half indian and half white.
[] Gender: i’m a ladyyy
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My SATs were strong; my essays and recs were amazing. Also, my ECs were solid, and my course load was strong overall with increased difficulty over the course of 4 years.
[] Weaknesses: My GPA honestly could’ve been better, but I had a rough family situation when it took the biggest hit (sophomore/junior years). However, I still managed to pull off mostly B range with some A’s those years, and took good courses regardless. Additionally, my midyear senior grades were back on point with the A’s. I guess I wasn’t too far off in the first place, but still the weakest part of my application, for sure.
[] Why you think you were accepted: I think my passions and aspirations really came through clearly in my application, and honestly, NYU and I are a perfect fit for each other. This application seriously bled my personality, and I really believe they saw that and appreciated it with the combination of otherwise solid stats. Advice to next year’s applicants is to really be creative and thoughtful on the short answers.
[/ul]General Comments: I seriously could NOT be happier; I’m just sincerely /elated/. Dreams really do come true. Congrats to everyone who got in, and good luck for everyone else, promise from experience that things will work out.

Check Albert anyway. Common App screwed up my email, so I’ve been funny about getting them from a bunch of the schools I applied to, NYU being one of them…But when I heard decisions came out, I checked the portal and saw my decision. Good luck!
