[li] Where else did you get accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at Northwestern, UW Madison. Waitlisted at UChicago. I got a $30,000 scholarship, as well as a few other loans, but a big portion of my financial aid package was an $18,000 Parent PLUS loan that my parents can’t afford… our EFC was $9000, and they told me they can’t afford to take out a loan that big. Oh well. Hopefully Northwestern will give a better offer.

[] Strengths: Scores, Grades
[] Weaknesses: The fact I have already been enrolled in college before
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Probably the fact I have already been enrolled in college before lol
[/ul]General Comments: The decision popped up on my phone as I was leaving work, wasn’t too shocked, I don’t think I’ll be taking the spot on the waitlist though, I am trying to go back into college and I don’t have time nor do I like NYU enough to be sitting around all summer waiting for them to admit me or not

[] Job/Work Experience: N/A

[] Essays: My Common App one was pretty good. It was how the death of my father taught me that nothing was forever. Also, my short responses for NYU sounded like they came out of a marketing firm.
[] Teacher Recommendation: The two that I sent to NYU were from teachers that loved me. I waived my right, but I’m guessing that they were good.
[] Counselor Rec: He hated me at first, but now he seems to like me, so IDK how the rec went.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: N/A
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: No.
[] Intended Major: International Relations
[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ

Most of my summers are spent doing fashion-design related things, so last summer I took some art classes at a London art school (Central St. Martins) and did an internship, and took an intensive 3-week college art course at the Art Institute of Chicago the summer before my junior year. I also travel alot, although it’s usually more just for pleasure than oriented towards a specific goal.

[] Strengths: Essays, Test Scores, Photo Portfolio
[] Weaknesses: My gpa is laughably bad
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: See hooks[/li][/ul]General Comments:

I’m pretty happy. I also probably had the worst gpa out of anyone accepted in this thread. Life works that way I guess. According to Wikipedia, enrollment to the photo/imaging program is capped at 36/year, and according to an older thread here that works out to about 5%. Sweet.

Congrats, JaundiceDave,

Your stats illustrates the way Tisch works, highly selective, but less attention on scores or GPAs. Haha, they probably saw that you are not as much into academic work, though you are certainly capable of it, based on your strong SAT I and II scores.

However, it had to be that they were wowed by your talent in photography. One of my son’s friends is in the exact same program. Hehe, he had his camera with him (snapping away) all the time when we took a trip for an ethnic experience in another borough in NYC.

Again, I am sure you are very talented and have great potential to be even better with the Tisch training.

My “why NYU” essay was probably pretty cliche for a Stern applicant, and my “why NYC” essay was pretty much where I talked about how I’m already diverse and have lived in multiple countries/can speak multiple languages/have dual citizenship etc. For the last one I wrote about how I would talk to my grandpa (who I’ve never met - has died) because he was a Nazi soldier, and I would take him toa concentration camp and just ask him if this is what he was fighting for.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Not good, but not bad. They wrote good things but they showed them to me after they were submitted and there were definitely multiple grammar mustakes in them both.
[] Counselor Rec: Same as above
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: N/A
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, and I’m pretty p’oed at what I got.
[] Intended Major: Finance
[] State (if domestic applicant): Georgia
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: $50,000 - $60,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): athlete - cross country and track and field
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: The fact that I’m an athlete, obviously, but I feel like even if I wasn’t my scores and other stats would have given me a decent shot at Stern.
[] Weaknesses: Stats (aren’t exceptionally high)
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Athlete/stats/idk?
[/ul]**General Comments: Even though I’m an athlete, I still feel like I could have gotten into Stern. I’m glad that I got in but I don’t think I’ll be able to attend. My financial aid package is ****, barely $10,000 - and I even have decent scores - so I don’t know what happened there. **

[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese)
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: upper-middle class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: challenging course load, leadership positions, work experience, essay, recommendations, many extracurriculars
[] Weaknesses: gpa could be higher, screwed up on SAT reading :frowning:
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: my essay went through many revisions, my teachers knew me well, and being the colorguard captain helped[/li][/ul]**General Comments: I was kinda surprised at the fin aid package since I’ve heard that NYU gives very little money for scholarships and Fin aid. But I will be attending NYU this fall! Very excited~ I only wish that it had an actual campus, but i guess the pros outweigh the cons! **

Decision: Accepted

[] Additional Rec: My boss wrote a letter about how I managed to mix school and work so well
[] Interview: none
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: YEAHH
[] Intended Major: Global Liberal Studies
[] State (if domestic applicant): prefer not to say but definitely one of the most competitive and industrialized ones
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: 80k
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): nothing :open_mouth:
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Leadership and I do think (while every student says this) the “unique/rare” factor really does apply to me… you don’t meet a bilingual international fashion model AND a state-ranked debater every day… so I guess that made up for my clearly inferior objective data
[] Weaknesses: Test scores, GPA (woah I have horrible test scores compared to everyone else!), academics in general
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I genuinely think NYU just found me amusing more than anything… Looking to my academics I am an “underdog” I think…(and I do not qualify for geographic/ethnic/religious/etc. diversity AT ALL affirmative action is so against me) [/li][/ul]General Comments: I’m happy with NYU (among my top choices), though I’m hesitant about GLS… I know it’s totally not associated with LSP but how competitive is it?

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): Didn’t submit
[] ACT: 24 (Yeah, that’s not a typo :-P)
[] SAT II: Didn’t submit

[] AP (place score in parenthesis): I don’t believe I mentioned it anywhere…

[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus AB, AP Psychology, AP Government, AP Literature, research in a lab (I’ve taken about 9 APs so far)

[] Summer Activities:Took over 6 community college classes
[] Essays:Revised like crazy. They were pretty good, based on numerous critiques. The supplement was… original, to say the least
[] Teacher Recommendation: Excellent! One came from lab, one came from my AP English teacher who’s now a professor at a major University.
[] Counselor Rec:I met her this year, but I think I made a good impression.
[] Additional Rec:
[] Interview:Nope
[/ul][ b]Other**[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yeah, but I’m sure I won’t get any
[] Intended Major:Social Work
[] State (if domestic applicant):CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type:Public Magnet
[] Ethnicity:Indian/Bengali
[] Gender:Female
[] Income Bracket: Over 100k
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Research publication, essay, rec letters
[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[] Strengths:GPA, Course rigor, passionate essay
[] Weaknesses:TEST SCORES!!!
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:After looking back on my application I’d have to say it was the supplement. Very unique and genuine.
[/ul]General Comments: Don’t think that you need over a 2000 SAT score to get in. There isn’t anything too special about me, but I was able to come off as appealing, nonetheless. Without enough financial aid, I might go to UC Irvine. Not sure yet, though :)
