I was accepted at NYU but not to the college of arts and sciences, which was what I wanted… instead I was accepted to the liberal studies program…

But today I was accepted to American University and I don’t know which is better…
’
I want to study either English, Literature or Journalism… If it helps…
:)

Well, if you really wanted to go to NYU you can still change your major after you get your core classes done I’m sure (at least that’s how it is at some colleges you have to wait till your sophomore year till you can change, but it’s not like that at all colleges some let you change during the summer). So, I guess just wait and see how much AU or NYU gives you if money is an issue

Im guessing you got into the liberal studies program.

I also got into LSP and got into american today! I mean for me its really a no-brainer, i would choose NYU over american. I think because it has a fantastic reputation and its in new york city. Although i think american is a great school and DC is a great city, i think NYU is an even better school with a better city. Also if you’re wanting to major in journalism or english literature wouldn’t lsp be really great for you since its a writing intensive course?

i dont know i just feel like NYU for me but it comes down to what you want.

Heey! It’s funny we got into the same schools… CONGRATULATIONS!! I actually think I like NYU better… but I wanted to know what other people thought… I guess I’ll see you in NY in a few months?? :D

No question that NYU is a better school, but I don’t know how people like it. I don’t think that either school has a great reputation for happy students.

No question American is the better school - for international service/relations, undergraduate business, public affairs, communications. And no question NYU is the better school in the arts and sciences.

im sure politics is better at american but stern is by far a better business school not really sure why you would say american has a better business school?!

And maybe i’ll be at NYU next year, just depends on my final decisions coming in.

D had the same situation last year – accepted in to LSP at NYU and in to AU (and others). One thing to check out, and was a significant influence on her decision, was how the 2 schools handle AP credit. At NYU, her AP’s counted only for elective credit – did not satisfy any gen ed requirement. At AU, she came in w/ 30 credits from AP, satisfied college writing requirement and the foundation level of 4 out of 5 general ed categories. That is putting her at a significant advantage on flexibility for double majors, etc. Something to think about if you have a significant number of AP’s. Plus, she’s loving AU and being in DC.

Are you kidding? Stern is easily top 20 undergrad business programs and for finance top 10. And, international business is a highly unmarketable degree, so getting an international business degree in the first place is questionable at best.

Not kidding in the least. Check the rankings of undergraduate career offices of Kogod v. Stern. Check the percentage of in-term undergraduate internships. I think you’ll find that Kogod runs rings around Stern. And, yes, I know what the rankings say. Look under the hood.

But at any rate, I don’t think the OP was asking about business. There is no question in my mind that NYU is superior in the liberal arts (and in the sciences and math and art history, very, very much superior.) And in theater/performing arts, obviously. It is equally clear to me that American is superior in international service/relations, communications, public affairs. (A minority of students at American major in the liberal arts.)
