NYU or Carnegie Mellon? What should I do?

I was accepted to, both, CAS at NYU and Dietrich at CMU as an undergraduate for the class of 2019. I am completely undecided, except I know I don’t want to go into business and finance, or engineering. CMU offered me a lot more financial aid than NYU (NYU costs 25k a year, CMU costs around 5k), but I really don’t mind debt, being that I’ll just pay it off later. I really want to do study abroad my junior year. I prefer big, urban cities, as opposed to small towns. I am very athletic, but also artsy. I don’t have a preference of campus style-- traditional or non-traditional. And I don’t care for Greek life. So should I take to cheaper deal at CMU? Or should I blow money on the countless majors and minors NYU has to offer?
Plus, I probably already know which college I am going to, but haven’t mustered enough courage to convince myself of the decision; so, any and all responses/experiences/stories/comments are welcome. :stuck_out_tongue:

CMU offers some very good programs in disciplines other than STEM fields – they have a very good theater department, for example. I think your “paying off debt later” idea is a poor one, unless your family has money to burn. For that cost differential, I would go with CMU and explore its resources and network to the fullest. It’s a fine school, and Pittsburgh has undergone some revitalization over the years – there should be plenty going on to keep you busy and active. There are several programs at CMU that are regarded more highly than NYU.

By the way: if you state that you already know which college you are going to, you are kind of defeating the purpose of other posters assisting you.

CMU is the obvious choice.

Thank you for the commentary, I really appreciate it. My main purpose behind this post was to gain more confidence and knowledge in whichever college I decide to attend, being that it is 4 years of my life. CMU is obviously the better financial decision, but my lack of interest in finances has me doubting my better judgment. I know many people in their forties who are still paying off their college debt, but do it gladly, because it was a priceless experience. I don’t completely understand why loan debt is such a bad thing, really. But thank you anyways.

The CMU campus is directly adjacent to Pitt, so there will be no shortage of social opportunities available to you around CMU.

“I don’t want to go into business, finance, or engineering.” Those majors aren’t offered by Dietrich anyway. Dietrich is CMU’s college for humanities and social science.
