also, ellockonyu - winter in NYC and Montreal are not that different. Just so you know, when you hit the border, it DOESNT START SNOWING; its pretty much the same climate as the eastern US.

I think either way you these are two great options to pick from - both outstanding schools with excellent reputations. I actually think going to McGill would be a very interesting experience.

Of course cost is an important consideration as a few people have mentioned - I guess you have decided for yourself (or with your parents) the extent to which that is a factor.

Otherwise, I guess it depends on what you want to study and what kind of school / city you want to be in. There is no question that NYC is unmatched as a city no matter where you go in the world, but that doesn't mean it is the best place for you. NYU is a very large school and it takes a very independent, self-motivated NYC type to really thrive in that kind of environment. If that is you - then you will love NYU, but it is definitely not for everyone. Best advice I can give you is to pick the place you will be happiest spending 4 years.

"NYU is a very large school and it takes a very independant, self motivated person to thrive" That I believe to be fairly accurate. I personally would not stake my future career opportunities on a school " that may be an interesting experience." But anton your post as a whole I agree with. I think the last sentence of your post is excellant advice.

lol I love the NYU elitism in this thread.

Both schools will offer an excellent education and truly memorable experiences but it will always come down to what you make of your time there. And you can't really go wrong with either NYC or Montreal...two of the most amazing cities on the planet imo.

Personally, I feel that unless you're attending either Stern or Tisch, it is not worth dishing out the extra 100k at NYU. I am also applying to both NYU and Mcgill and eventhough NYU is practically a dream school for me, I've come to the realization that 200k might be too much of a burden on me and my parents. On the other hand, Mcgill is internationally renowned, in an amazing city AND relatively cheap.

But if money wasn't an issue for me, then I think I would pick NYU if I got in.

I have been to Montreal several times and although historic within canada, it is clearly not one of the most amazing cities on the planet. Mcgill may provide a excellant canadian bargain education but it is dwarfed when compared to NYU in NYC. And all the positive BS in the world won't change that fact.

to each his own

although I know many people that would disagree with you. There's a reason it is always ranked so high in the lists of most desirable cities to live in. Montreal is an amazing city...and I, like many, like to think of it as a taste of Europe in North America. But, evidently, I guess that isn't for everyone.

Secondly, it is not a "canadian bargain education" as you so frankly put it. Give me one good reason why Mcgill is a second rate school. What does NYU offer in terms of academics that McGill doesn't?

I realize you'll be attending NYU next year and it's sure as hell fine to be proud of that. NYU is an excellent school by all means. But it really doesn't mean you have to put down a school which you don't really seem to know anything about other than the fact that it's in "Canadia".

Wow are you serious? "old montreal", french speaking canadians, and a bunch of restaurants that serve french onion soup ---is not a taste of europe, But if you think it's France--then just go to old montreal at lunch time and call it "lunchtime abroad". LOL-- Best of luck at mcgill.

good stuff bro

wish you luck at nyu

I am pretty sure McGill offers a better education than NYU. Hands down.

This thread sufficiently brought the LOL****INTASTIC.

Since when did NYU become that prestigious...

It's still a safety school for many people and this is certainly not a laughable question.

And OP, don't worry. People like ellockonyu are not very noticeable in the campus.

seriously give it time and NYU probably will be a top 20 school consistently - I believe the admit rate dropped nearly 10% this year! But it's not a laughable question to choose b/w NYU and McGill, especially when finances matter.

"People like ellockonyu are not very noticeable in the campus."

Wrong! ;)

haha maybe..

if you purposely look for Stern scholars, maybe.

but even in the scholars, there are still those who are not like ellock..

anyway, it's fine as long as you ignore them...

ellock couldn't have gotten into Stern scholars.

*yawn (10char)

Hi firewalker, you appear to be a well informed voice of reason. As to merumerume, why not try the scholars program at mcgill? OH sorry, I guess that might be an oxymoron.
