So I was all set on attending Northeastern when I get an email from NYU announcing I was given one of the last spots in the class off of the waitlist. I plan on going into Economics and for NYU was put in the Core Liberal Studies Program. I prefer Boston and the Northeastern campus, but the prestige of the NYU econ program is something hard to deny. Thoughts?

Thats a hard situation to act in, because NYU does have a “better” (in regards to prestige) Economics program, but they put you in LSP, and you will have to be ok taking two years of Liberal Arts classes before you can take Economics classes.

I applied to Northeastern as well, and even though their program is more up-and-coming and less known than NYU’s- their CoOp program is extremely interesting and beneficial for job placement after graduation. I also fell in love with their campus and Boston location; it has a great college feel to it while still being in a city.

In my opinion, you should choose the college you think you will like more. NYU’s prestige is probably equaled out by the benefits of the CoOp placement at Northeastern (at least in my opinion) so it should come down to where your heart wants you to go!

NYU (people will debate this all day- but in general) has less of a college atmosphere than Northeastern. Meaning, Northeastern has a campus and a typical college experience, while NYU has Washington Square park and the benefits of being in New York. But at both those places you can find a place to fit in, because both are large and there will be people who enjoy the same things you do. Even if that means playing football at NYU, or going clubbing at NEU- if its there you will find it!

Also look into the programs- the CoOp is great for jobs, but it also means you taking semesters off from college courses in order to do internships or study abroad to work, etc. You’ll have to be sure that you are ok with having that pre-professional feeling.

I don’t know what I would do if I were you, but I hope some of that helped! Both of those are great schools and you can’t go wrong with either of those! Good Luck!!!
