I'm a transfer student, and my decision has come down to Oberlin and NYU. I'm looking for some insight as to which school might be a better choice. I'd be studying American Studies, creative writing and studio art at either school. While NYU has an amazing array of courses and the Gallatin program fits my needs like a glove, I'm worried about the size of the university and struggling with the administration. And while the backwoods of Ohio sound terrible, I'm also a little nervous about living in New York, especially on a budget.

Any insight would be appreciated.

NYC is expensive as hell, but it can be cheap if you want it to be...(use a meal plan etc). Some thoughts for you: Gallatin has a small admistration so no worries there.. HOWEVER, do you really want a degree in 'individualized study', i just transfered out of gallatin because of that and other reasons. Gallatin students are artsy and weird, its very liberal and i wanted a more conservative atmosphere. Also, NYU tends to screw its transfers over in housing (****ty dorms usually) and they make little to no effort of introducing you to fellow transfers so its extremely difficult to make friends, unless you really relate to fellow gallatin people.. Gallatin isn't really a real school. I can help you more if you tell me what you want to study and where you want to work after college. Size of the university wont affect you becuase you will be a gallatin students, about 240 people in your grade, give or take.. Small classes in gallatin, you're open to tons of awesome CAS classes. You dont really have to 'struggle' with administration, unless you like to complain about stupid stuff. There you have it.
