I have been trying to find the average high school GPA and SAT for NYU physics but I can’t. I can’t even find the average GPA and SAT for CAS. Anybody know what it is for physics?
I doubt even NYU knows what it is for physics, as you don’t apply to CAS by major. You declare your major sometime during your first 2 years. On your app you put down your intended major, but it is not binding in the slightest (though your first advisor is likely to be from that department).
CAS middle 50% SAT is 650-730 EWR / 640-760 M. 72% in top 10% of their class, 100% in top 25% (but not all schools report that number). 41% have 3.75 or better; 28% 3.5-3.74; 19% 3.25-3.49.
Where did you hear this?
Common Data Set & NYU website.
For the SAT #s you can get those info for any school by doing a search for “common data set” + the name of that college (it’s in Section C).
For info on declaring majors you can get that from each college website.
Median admitted SAT for NYU this year was up to 1500, I expect enrolled will be a bit below that. CAS generally regarded as second most competitive school after Stern (one of the 3 NYU schools they mention that has single digit admit rates). You’d probably want SAT 1450+ to be really competitive for CAS. https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2020/march/NYU_Class_of_2024_Admits.html
NYU website https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/nyu-facts.html has various stats of first years. I will note that the data on this page has not been updated since mid December 2018 (we checked it when my daughter got her ED admit) so I’d expect the current numbers are actually somewhat higher.
