~~Essays & Recs; Miscellaneous~~
Writing is my greatest intellectual talent, other than science, so my essays were very good. My college counselor sent me a personal email that said my essay was "The best I have ever seen-Enough said". My little essays were very good as well.

My teacher recs are coming from the teachers of the classes in which I received the lowest grades. However, they are very good letters and they gave me the highest marks on the recommendation form. My counselor wrote a lot about my writing skills and an illness that caused me to miss much of my sophomore/junior years.

I also had a doctor write me a letter in order to verify the absence and the platform for my GPA drop. In addition, a distinguished alumna wrote a letter for me.

My GPA is low because of those extraneous circumstances, which I explained in my essay; however, I did so very uniquely. I understand that the GPA probably hurts your eyes, but given what was occurring, I was donating as much work to school that I could. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough.

Thank you-12 days until decision time!

Bumping-As I mentioned, I'm desperate.

I think you're in.
With an 11 on your ACT writing section, you must have written a great essay.
The 31 composite ain't too shabby either.

Well you seem to have a lot going for you. Don't know how it will play out but I think you have good chances. You do have very good ACT scores and first generation and top school can only help. Sounds like recs from teachers and GC will help with explaining your situation and that your essays are very good. Seems like you do have some very important positives that will add nicely to your application. Best of luck!

Thanks guys!
Anyone else?

Have your medical troubles resolved to the point that your recent grades have been high? If so, you're in good shape.

U have a really good shot! good luck

Thanks guys! I'd love some more feedback from others as well...

Hm...The 3.15 is not amazing. From what I heard, NYU is a numberheavy school. But the 31 is looking great!
Sorry, didn't read the rest of the post about the GPA.
Alright. All things taken into consideration...and the ED, I'd say you're definitely in - don't even bother with the other apps.

^are you out of your mind? It's always good to work other apps just in case...

Don't worry. I'm in the same boat as you (3.1 uw gpa with 6+ APs, 32 ACT, stellar ECs and good essays) and also applying to NYU, and I definitely understand the feeling that you're just never going to get into college. I think your ACT score clearly shows you're smart, and your ECs show you're dedicated and passionate. Hopefully NYU and other colleges will see that you're talented and capable, and at the same time a real person and not a 4.0 robot.

Basically, if I can look at these stats without having actually met you, and I can deduce that you're a good kid and such, and believe you'd do well at NYU, theoretically admissions officers will do the same. Personally, I'd admit you.

Best of luck! (To both of us...)

Aw, thanks. Yeah, I'm definitely filling out other apps...haha. No one is a shoo-in anywhere anymore, it seems.

NYU confuses me greatly, because they preach their "holistic" MO of app reading, but they also have a rep for being very numerically driven.

Do you think that my GPA will totally knock me out of the game? I'd love more responses. Thanks! 11 days...

PS good luck to you as well Khaefre!

Bumping....

Help me out, please-I CAN handle the truth!

Sorry-Bumping Again.
