haha yess more girls! Does anyone know when we hear from NYU-Poly about FASFA?

lol, and yeah i would really like to know haha

just don’t let the fact that the guys outnumber the girls so badly get to your heads girls haha, a lot of average-outside-school girls here let it go to their heads and become *****y-conceited, not without good reason though considering the number of stereotypical tech students here

Received a packet a couple days ago. Got accepted with a $20,000 Promise and invite to the Honors College. Anyone know anyone in that program?

Additional perks to that program:

First pick for academic-based jobs like tutoring - it’s barely above minimum wage but you honestly don’t do nothing except explain concepts from classes you’re getting As in to people, i’m gonna be a Engineering Forum T.A next semester …and get paid 100 per week for doing 2 hours of work a week

Free summer classes

Lounge to chill in that’s pretty quiet but about the size of a high school classroom with comfy sofas and a work computer + microwave

Pick your electives and non-mandated classes a week before everyone else

A separate secretary who manages the ~100 students’ affairs

Cons: Stress from having to maintain a 3.5 GPA which is WAY tougher to do in honors-poly than a typical high school, if you go to Boston Latin, Thomas Jefferson (VA), Stuyvesant, or Bronx Sci you’ll know what I mean

Mandatory “honors” classes (could be seen as a pro) that are way more indepth and abstract than the standard classes

Ex: In honors Newtonian Mechanics, everything has to be done bottom up from F = dm/dt(mass * momentum) and conservation of energy, which is much harder than the silly stuff you’d see on AP physics B/C

Are you early decision applicants? I am in RA track and did not receive anything yet.

Accepted into NYU-Poly, but did not receive my financial aid packet yet. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

Best of luck to other applicants! NYU-Poly is a growing school and soon(this year apparently) it will be an “official” school of NYU rather than an affiliation, but still, NYU-Poly is an amazing school.

@GF2015, I was RD & I got my notification in the beginning of Feb. They send decisions out right after viewing each individual app (I’m guessing) so maybe they just didn’t get up to you, yet!

I was accepted over a month ago but I just found this thread and… I am girl ! Lol but I was accepted only the general studies program. Which means ill have take clasess during the summer. I believe my acceptance letter said they would be online but ill get to stay on campus I believe and I don’t have to pay for the clasess :D. Idk if ill go to nyu poly yet I have to see about the money. Also how did you guys know about your scholarship amount ? Did it say it in your letter ?

The GS summer course is sort of a bit of a weeding-out process, I promise you you won’t see a good number of the people from your summer courses when fall comes around. As for the program itself, supposedly the original vision for Polytechnic brooklyn was to provide an education for first generation immigrant children that could not obtain it in any other way without being heavily indebted. GS has pretty much filled that niche role since the NYU merger for a small select group of people with immigrant backgrounds that were determined at a glance to have weak applications. Most people in GS either have a grant that covers like ~15k dollars (not sure whether you get this after the summer or with the initial letter) or no scholarship at all. That isn’t to say people from GS are the idiots of the university or anything, but that frequently are disadvantaged heavily in some reasonable way that would make them a candidate for an opportunity to receive a quality engineering education.

Anecdote: Static and I have a person from GS that elects to attend the honors lectures because he finds the regular lectures too easy, and has already completed multivariable calculus as a Freshman I believe. He essentially flunked the SATs due to not understanding a word of English at the time and has developed high fluency in the language in only 2 years

@llaupy I called them today and the guy said you should get the financial info during the last week of march.

did anyone get their financial aid packet yet?

I called the financial office several times and it seems to send me directly to their voicemail everytime. then called the undergrad office today and they told me that they were currently sending them out as of this second. :O

I got mine in the mail 2 days ago.

What was the approximate percentage of need that they gave you?

so I got a big packet with all of my financial aid stuff and scholarships and I received a letter today telling me that I was selected for the honors program! but i haven’t gotten an acceptance letter yet… is that weird?

Finical aid package arrived yesterday. Wish it was more but felt better after reading this <a href=“Home | NYU Tandon School of Engineering”>Home | NYU Tandon School of Engineering;

I got the financial aid package on Thursday and received the acceptance letter today. I still have to look forward to the GS program to prove myself.

Haha, Amanda… I think Poly’s quirky trademark move is to send scholarships and invitations before the acceptance letters. Which is kind of insanely adorable. it suggests if you were to call and ask if that means you were accepted, Admissions MAY have to play coy and be like, “ohh i dunnnnno… ;)”

'Grats, guys!!! If you have any questions, I’m a sophomore, and Imhilion is a freshman. we’re in the same physics class and occasionally bond over CC

Sent from my DROID2 using CC App

Hey Static/Imhilion/and any other Poly undergrads,

I had a question about welcome week.
What is welcome week like? Are we separated from the other freshmen or do we spend welcome week meeting new people from other parts of NYU? Since we’re on a different campus and all.
I read somewhere that we meet up with the other incoming freshmen from CAS, Stern, Tisch, LSP, etc. A lot of my friends got into CAS and Stern so it would be cool to transition into college with them on the first week. (Don’t want to sound too clingy)
