NYU Poly Computer Science Review

How is the B.S. in Computer Science at NYU Poly? Any real-life experiences? How prepared were you, do you recommend it? I am also really interested in how much homework you had to do? Were the classes AND homework hard/time-consuming? Thanks! Any other suggestions regarding universities and programs/electives are welcome.

I am currently a junior in NYC (IB Diploma Candidate) and looking into applying to Poly, but am also worried about paying for tuition. I've heard that they lure you in with a scholarship for the first year, and then withdraw!

P.S. What's the difference between CS at NYU and at Poly? They have different websites. Thanks again!

You will likely have to ask NYU and PINYU (Polytechnic Institute of New York University) what the effect of the merger will be when it is completed. NYU and PI were separate schools (with PI focusing on engineering, while NYU did not have engineering – NYU sold its engineering division to PI years ago), but NYU is in the process of acquiring PI, now called PINYU. Computer science happens to be a major that both schools have.

PINYU appears to have much better financial aid than NYU’s notoriously poor financial aid. That might be a source of worry for current PINYU students on financial aid as the merger completes.

As a New York resident, do not overlook Stony Brook for CS.

You can check the net price calculators at each school for financial aid estimates.

Any reviews of the Computer Science program at Poly?

computer science at Poly is very decent and this is the only time i recommend coming to Poly than CAS,

Is it possible to take courses during the summer break in Computer Science to finish the B.S. in less than four years?

Does anyone know if IB HL classes with a 6 or 7 score in History, Art, and Literature count for any elective requirements?

Yes you can take summer classes or take more credits during the semester to finish your degree in less time. and You will need to call up the school regarding IB scores

About how many hours a day? How hard are the courses? I don’t want college to be a repetition of high school.
