NYU Poly v. Tufts for Engineering/CS

[Disclaimer: A similar thread also posted at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tufts-university/1761659-tufts-v-nyu-for-engineering-cs.html#latest I apologize if such a thing violates CC rules]

Anyhow,…

…I am debating between Tufts and NYU Poly (accepted to Honors Program).
Equal financial aid package from both. I’m gonna visit them soon.

For now, I want to know more about both schools in terms of:
_academic rigor & support
_internship & career opportunities
_social life

Any opinion is much appreciated!

See my post on the other thread, but the short answer is go to Tufts.

Please go to Tufts. The six year grad rate at poly is 60%. Tufts is superior anyway.

You may want to take into cosideration employment opportunities as well. NYU Poly is ranked Number five in the country for salary potential. (Google payscale engineering schools). Tufts is not on that list.

@NYNJCA Tufts is not on that list because it is not an Engineering school, it is a University with a School of Engineering. It is #9 on the full list, above several top-ten ranked schools.

Since you brought it up, here’s the Payscale comparison of the two schools. Note that the mid-career salary is higher at Tufts.

I cannot see where NYU Poly is #5 in the country for anything on Payscale.

Based on the totally flawed methodology of Payscale, it appears that you will do just fine financially with a degree from either school.

I take all rankings with a grain of salt and therefore use them merely as a guide. Even US News, which many people rely upon is inherently flawed. NYU Poly is now officially a School within NYU. NYU, for whatever it is worth, is constantly rated higher that Tufts overall in the Times and Shanghai ratings. However, I take all of this, as I said, with a grain of salt.

Anyone considering these two schools should visit. They are located in totally different environments. I have read that there are people that didnt like Poly. However, I personally know people who hated Tufts and Harvard. Both did well academically and graduated. Therefore, different people can have different experiences.

More importantly, engineering majors typically do better than most in finding employment after graduation. I agree that both are excellent academic institutions. However, the environments are drastically different.
