NYU Poly's Math Department

Hello,

I have applied to NYU Poly's math department for my PhD. I haven't heard yet but should find out one way or the other soon. I'm very interested in the program but was wondering what will happen post consolidation to the math department. I know the engineering programs will remain at Poly but given NYU Courant, will the school end up with two departments, will they merge or will something else happen? The person I spoke with at Poly was unsure and the professor they directed me to never returned my email. I read something in CC about Poly's math department becoming a sub division of Courant's but I'm not sure how accurate that is or exactly what it entails.

I'm interested either way, but of course the affiliation/possible integration with Courant is a huge plus.

Thanks!

From last I heard, it’s supposed to be part of a single, unified global mathematics department that NYU is planning to have. The whole arrangement is still being worked out though, so we don’t know for sure. Students doing math MS/PhD can and do take courses at Courant that count toward their degree. We should have some more information later on in the year, considering how Poly’s full integration will happen on January 1, 2014.

Thanks for the reply; information about this has been very hard to find. Is there a place where news about the consolidation gets posted? The only sites I’ve found are either old or only speak in very general terms.
