NYU Poly, as most of you may know, is now NYU’s engineering school. The admission criteria might not be very challenging as this will be its first year as a part of NYU and it might not be very well reputed, but what about 3, 4 or 5 years from now? Does it have the potential to be one of the top engineering programs in America? Obviously, no one can say for certain right now but I’d like to know everyones thoughts on it.
Bump
Locally, Poly is still far behind most NYC engineering schools : Columbia, Cooper Union, CCNY Grove.
In terms of STEM, NYU is known for math, cs and statistics which is only applicable to the main campus.
Most applicants would apply to NYU directly for those subjects instead of Poly, therefore Poly needs to excel in its own niche to increase its own standing as a reputable engineering school.
In 3-5 years from now, it’s extremely unlikely, it’ll be one of the top engineering schools, especially when you take into account NYU’s business-like structure. Most likely, NYU will force poly to keep it’s acceptance rates high like the LSP program b/c even students with terrible credentials will still pay money which is one of NYU’s main objective. Even if these students can’t keep up, Poly will still fill it’s student body so that NYU will have greater revenue per year.
As a result, Poly’s reputation would probably stagnate even with NYU’s branding.
Hmmm, makes sense.
Please don’t take it ill. And do reply, if you have any idea.
To be honest, I am an indian student, reading now in senior year. I have achieved 7, 7.2, and 6 CGPA (unlike of GPA, CGPA is run over scale of 10), in my first 3 years of high school ( well, I should not title it as achievement).
I wanna know is their any way through which I can make myself into NYUPoly for Physics/computer science course in undergraduation.
Please, any idea or help.
I have a kid who is a CS Major at NYU Poly and everything gradOlife said rings true. He’s probably leaving after this semester because he’s completely frustrated and says (with one exception) the professors hates their students.
Of the four kids in his freshman suite, two have already left and two others (including my son) are not planning on re-registering for their junior year.
