NYU pre-med

Hey there. I was wondering, does anybody know what is the acceptance rate to med school for NYU undergrads?

Also, Is NYU a good school to do your undergraduate studies at for aspiring MD's?

thanks a bunch!

There was a post on this forum a while ago.

If you can get a 3.5 and above a 30 on the MCATS, your chance of getting into a med school is around 95%

However, of the 300 premeds that start at NYU, about 50% will drop out of premed and pursue something else.

So I guess that means if you can survive that cut, you should be in good shape!

I would like to see the data that states that if you have above a 3.5 from NYU and an Mcat 30, you have a 95% chance of getting into med-school. I believe these numbers are greatly overstated for NYU premeds. But in any case, if you have the data, let's see it.

I would think that it would be more than 300 pre-med that start at NYU, considering that the NYU entering freshmen class is larger than 4,000 students.

i believe it was in the nyu forum

he said the information was given to him at an orientation at nyu

even if he did fudge the numbers, 3.5 at nyu is pretty solid and the same goes for an mcat score at 30 or higher

you might not get into schools like harvard med or feinberg but i'm sure there will be a medical school out there that will accept you

i'm not sure about the premed entering class myself...i too thought that number was a bit small

Well, look at it this way. Here is the full Berkeley 2x2 premed chart, in full-blown box format. As you can see, according to the data, even the very highest box for Berkeley premeds, which consist of Berkeley premeds with over a 3.9 GPA and over a 35 MCAT get into medical school at only a 92% rate. Hence, I find it EXTREMELY EXTREMELY difficult to believe that NYU premeds with only a 3.5 and above and only a 30 MCAT and above are getting in at a 95% rate.

i'm sure the numbers must have been inflated or skewed in some way then (orientation meetings are usually meant to attract those on the fence)

or the kid who presented it in the other forums did his own inflation

either way, a 3.5 and a 30 are the minimum if you are seriously looking at med school
