NYU Pre-med

Hey there. I was wondering, does anybody know what is the acceptance rate to med school for NYU undergrads?

Also, Is NYU a good school to do your undergraduate studies at for aspiring MD's?

thanks a bunch!

This might answer your question. Good luck.

i'm not going premed but just wondering...how many top new york area medical schools are there?

Einstein (Yeshiva U)
Columbia
Cornell
Mt. Sinai (Affiliated with NYU)
NYU
NY Medical College
SUNY Downstate
Stony Brook

those are all top schools?

No, they're the worst-medical-schools-on-the-face-of-the-earth ! Of course they're top schools, duh!

I doubt they all are. actually... i was just wondering what were the better ones out of that group? top is so generic if you can include NYU amound ones i've never heard of.

Having graduated, worked, studied, or taught at all of the above schools, I would say that you would get an outstanding education at all of them. Each school has it's own unique method of teaching, and the cases you would see would vary widely among all of them. Some are suburban, some are very urban. Some are private and some are state. Research opportunities abound at some of these schools (Stony Brook)

Every one of these schools could produce a well rounded, competent and educated doctor. Don't fall for brand names, sometimes the best program for someone else is not the best program for you.

To the original poster. NYU is a great place to do premed, though it is very competitive. There is also a great deal of independence with little hand holding by the pre med advisor. Organic is tough at NYU (the original home to Morrison and Boyd.) If you are a strong independent worker who is not intimidated by the highly competitive pre med atmosphere, then NYU will serve you well.

hiii...i was just lookign around and i was wondering if you can help...i'm definitely willing to do all the hard work to become a physician...and i narrowed it down to NYU for undergrad/pre-med...and NYIT's 7 year BS/DO program...which do you think is better for residencies....and is NYU worth all the money for pre-med..tahnks

myriddin: Check out this thread. (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=177947%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=177947</a>) It might help with your questions.

ranisparkle: All of those medical schools are top-notch. If I remember correctly, according to AMCAS' most recent version of their guide to medical schools, they're all above-average in terms of their accepted students' MCAT scores.

this is a subject that has frequently surfaced. careers that require professional schooling such as doctors and lawyers--it is of no real difference where you recieve your undergrad education. granted NYU is NYU, but premed programs, by their very nature, must be very similar across the board. again, unless money is not an object, i find it hard to reccomend that people attend NYU for a premed program. if you think it will help you to find a better medical school, and if youre smart enough to get into NYU for premed, then youre also smart enough to attend AnonymousU, earn a 3.8-4.0, get solid recc's and get into a top med school anyway.

thats just my two cents.
