I am an international student. So basically I am full pay at both universities . NYU costs 68k at max while UMich costs 56k at max Per year. Basically 10k difference is worth for me if nyu is truly better.

My intended major is Math ..and I like Applied Math and plan to go to graduate school for the same.

I am not that rich and therefore I am also looking for Applied Math internships which I will have advantage if I join NYU considering its ties with Wall Street.

Please help me with suggestions on UMich vs NYU?

Neither university publishes placement data specific to Mathematics majors. Any information you receive will be anecdotal. Also, I am not so sure that NYU CAS students enjoy such great placement in Wall Street firms. I would assume that those are mainly open to Stern students. If you go to Michigan, try to double major in Mathematics and Business.

NYU CAS students place decently at WS firms also. Maybe not as much as Stern but the students who put tin the work by getting good grades and meeting people throughout the year manage to secure good positions (Asset Management, Wealth Management, Equity Research, IB etc) in WS firms.

Also I’ve noticed that NYU’s math majors get awesome recruitment by a ton of heavy quant positions (quant research, modeling etc.) The job boards always has postings for these and they are usually out of reach of Stern students since Stern students don’t have Math, CS backgrounds. Citadel, D.E Shaw and some other great prop shops are always trying to recruit both the undergrad and grad Courant kids.

@Alexandre - Thanks a lot but actually I am not interested in that much Financial math. I am more interested in Mathemtical Biology and Computation Math. Applied math related to sciences. Can I expect a good job from NYU?

@qwertyzxc - Do you know how many students in CAS major in mathematics approx please? In UMich there about 60-80 but I am not able to find data for NYU

Basically I think both schools are equal in your field of interest, I’d go Michigan, first, it is cheaper and Michigan has more science major than NYU. It has a campus for student to concentrate on scientific studies.

You will get equal opportunity on research and interns from either.
