NYU Prospective transfers for the Spring/Fall 2008 School Year

Hey everyone,

I cordially invite anyone, either transferring to NYU or wherever, to share their experiences, current grades, laments, and any other helpful information which could possibly assist either me or anyone else looking for help in preparing themselves for rejection or sweet acceptance.

After skimming through the NYU website and other previous threads, the chances of getting in to NYU seem to be a bit slim. I'm currently at a four year institution hoping to transfer by Spring 2008. I had terrible high school grades and SAT scores, but there has been a steady, if not impressive upward trend since 11th grade. I currently have about 35 credits and a 3.966 GPA, and I still don't think I'm going to get in. I'm applying to the CAS for the English and Pol. Sci. programs, but I wouldn't leave this as your only school to apply to. NYU admissions is an unpredictable beast, and it's best if you have a plan B. I'm also applying to UMiami, UT-Austin, and some others that I haven't fully decided on yet. If anyone has any information, stories, insight, and some encouragement so I will still end up applying, don't be scared to drop a line.

I was thinking about tranferring to NYC CAS I heard it is really hard to get into and my stats are
Current College: Spartanburg Methodist College
College gpa (predicted for graduation): 3.55
SATS: havent taken
ACT: 29
ECs: to many to name I have got so many its not even funny.

I wanted to know what some people thought if i hand a chance. Good luck to everyone.

Im definitely applying for spring transfer, been trying to get more info on it as well
College: Top 20 LAC, 3.66 GPA (with AP's 50 credits) through freshman year
SAT:1510
ECs: varsity athletics/national competitions, others

applying to CAS for Biology/Biochemistry

I've checked out numerous other threads on the same subject and everyone has incredible stats. It's unfortunate that it's merely the volume of applicants that ultimately determines whether you get in or not. Both of you have as equal of a chance as all of the other highly competitive applicants this year, at least to me.

I haven't started college yet but I am dead set on transferring. I'll be applying to NYU Stern for fall 2008 as well as UNC and George Washington, and maybe USC, Northwestern, or BU. NYU is by far my top choice. I was wait listed at Stern when I applied for fall 2007, so maybe if I do well in my first year of college and write a better essay, I'll get in this time. But who knows for sure, since admissions are so unpredictable.

My HS GPA was a 3.8 unweighted, and I had a SAT score of 1970 (My verbal and math score is 1410. My writing score was terrible). I had the standard ECs, nothing extraordinary.

I'll be applying for fall '08 or spring '08, most likely fall.

My stats/info is as follows:

Current school: Univeristy of Houston
GPA 4.0/4.0 with 45 units at the end of my first year
Major: Business Finance
Accepted: To USC for fall '07
Excellent essay and decent EC's and reccomendations

What should I do? Either I can attend USC or reject USC and stay at my current school and aim for NYU next fall.

USC is an amazing school, but by far my top choices have always been either UC-Berkeley or NYU.

Do I have a shot at NYU? Or should I not take the risk and attend USC?

Most schools don't look highly on people who keep transferring from one school to another. They think it shows a lack of maturity and a "grass is always greener" approach to life.

In my opinion, figure out whether you would be happy at USC for the rest of your college years, or if you would still be thinking about UC Berkeley and NYU through the rest of college (and afterwards when you are in your career). Only you can make this decision. (but don't take USC's offer and then keep re-applying to other schools).

I can apply in the spring to these schools, but if I don't get in, rejecting USC will be the biggest mistake ever.

Hey guys, i am applying for Spring '08, I am hoping I have at least a chance

Current school: Santa Clara University
HS GPA 3.86 unweighted
College GPA 3.552
1370 SAT I
Major: History/Marketing
Very strong essay, pretty good ECs, two marketing internships and good recommendations.

Ahhh i want out of california SO BAD :(

Should I apply to CAS or Stern, does anyone know? I was a marketing major and switched to history halfway through sophomore year because our business school was horrible...

How many applicants apply to stern as transfers every year??..(I mean on average)...

I heard 1700 applicants among 4600 applied to CAS this year.

What about stern??...(I mean fall semester, not spring..)

plz tell me if someone knows or can guess about it..:)

Akbaby21, I wouldn't fully reject USC. If you're not too against one more year of moratorium, then I would defer the USC acceptance and see what NYU and whatever other schools you're applying to will offer. I've been deferring my Binghamton acceptance for a while now based on that soul premise. However, I wouldn't hint such a uncertainty to the admissions office at USC. I would simply say that you aren't financially prepared to attend USC just yet, and that you'd like a year to better prepare yourself.

Anyone know the acceptance rates for the NYU schools? Acceptance rate for CAS?

My cousin transfered from Bentley college to NYU with a 3.95 GPA

He applied the first time and got rejected and a HS student..

he had a 2200 SAT score
and went Stuy best HS in NYC and couldn't get it..but he did when he transfered..

Please chance me for Gallatin!

Reason to Transfer: I am planning to have surgery in Dec and my parents wanted me close to home. I feel that my academic needs will be met better at a large university where I can pursue my passions.

I can get a rec from the democratic candidate for governor for my state...Should I??? I don;t know if NYU considers extra non teacher recs like that.

according to NYU's transfer section on their website, the admissions rate for CAS is anywhere from 10- 15% in any given semester. yikes!

I am applying to CAS for Fall 2008. good luck to everyone! it seems like NYU really cares about having AT LEAST a 3.7 college GPA and also taking classes that fill their MAP requirement. They suggest some type of humanities (history, art history, literature, etc.) , a natural science, a writing course, and a reasoning course. I am not sure if that means math. And you can never go wrong with a language course, which is a requirement to graduate from NYU.

There is tons of information about transfering on the website. Good luck to everyone!

What kind of courses are you guys taking this semester? I know course selection is important but what exactly defines a "hard course". Do they just want to see variety?

I am taking intro to psychology, intro to soci, spanish intermediate, and a class called the iron cage of bureacracy and its discontents.

was thinking about an african history course, writing course, political science (international politics), and spanish for next semester. or possibly econ.

what about you guys?
