Is NYU generally a good university?
What is its rank?

what do you consider as a "good" university? There are a lot of companies that do ranking. Your question is too vague.

Well NYU is view widely as a very good school. But he/she's right, we can't give you a specific raking because difference companies do it. Usually it falls in the top 50 though, from what I've seen.

NYU's around Top 30 and rising, they have higher international rankings than domestic actually. Stern and Tisch are within Top 5 in their respective fields I believe. I know Tisch Film and USC Film often go head to head as the best film school in the country

NYU is a mixed bag. Stern & Tisch are well regarded for their business, acting & film specialties. Philosophy is also deemed to be top notch. The remainder may be what one makes of it. Internationally NYU is well known primarily because of its name & location.

Apart from the rankings, because of its location the students can benefit a lot from being integrated into the city. It offers so many opportunities outside of class.

The reason why it is rank so low in US news is because its financial aid package. US news weights heavily on Financial aid.

US News & World Report ranks it like 33 overall, it has risen a lot over the last couple of decades, probably will rise a little more in the upcoming years. like vector said, sucky financial aid plays a part, also the high transfer rate. but if you're doing film at tisch or going to stern, those programs are definitely top notch.

it's considered a mini Ivy league on some magazine, i forgot which one. but it's certainty a top 50 school.

Math department is one of the best in the world, I know that.
