@bethackeray , most of the aid NYU provides is need-based, not merit. There is a tiny percentage of high awards made to exceptional students, but this is not the norm. These aside, in almost all cases it does not meet full need, which is why it has a reputation for poor aid - but aid awards are mostly determined by need.
Officially:
“NYU awards very few exclusively merit-based scholarships, as we are committed to using the vast majority of our scholarship funds to assist students whose families are unable to pay the full cost of an NYU education.”

when do decisions come out?

Applied to CAS for anthro
International 1520 SAT
what are my possibilities?
Do Tandon students live on the main campus at Washington Square Park?
Anyone else feeling hopeless over the fact that they’ve got over 84k applications?
@St678557 - I already came to the realization that it is a pipe dream that my S will get in, but that just made it worse. Optimistically, he’s got a chance to quote from Dumb and Dumber (1 in ~84k) which is better odds than Lloyd Christmas had of dating Mary Swanson.
@St678557 - I heard about that, but there DEFINITELY is a chance. I applied early decision and just got in this afternoon, which I 100% didn’t expect and I also thought NYU was a reach for me. Just wait and see what they say
@estherofrivia congratulations…what are your stats?
honestly… i don’t even know why i applied to nyu if they barely have an financial aid to give to students
@zero/one I’ll copy and paste it from the ED2 Forum
Accepted into CAS as a Physics major and an astronomy minor I’ve lived in NYC all my life, and plan on commuting.
GPA: 90.6
SAT: 1270 (superscored, 700 English, 570 math)
ACT: 25
Ethnicity: First generation college student, both of my parents are Ghanaian immigrants (west Africa)
APs: Calculus, English, and US History (3/5 of the AP classes that my school offers, and my school only allows that students take 3 at a time)
ECs: Gaming club for three years, Sports theory club, tutoring, and teaching children’s Sunday school at my church since 2015. Plus, I’ve had an internships every single summer since college began (I attached my resume to my college application)
Essay: I wrote about the irony how I want to study space, but have never actually seen a star before (due to light pollution in the city, but also financial barriers in my home area). I made sure that my passion for astronomy really left an impression. My why NYU response was about admiring NYU from afar, but realizing that my work ethic would help me fit right in.
Rec’s: One of my former employers from an internship, my guidance counselor, my AP English teacher and my AP US teacher
@estherofrivia cool …do you know anything about Candidate weekend invitation for those applying in rd… I think selected people get emails earlier than the others for candidate weekend…is it??
My daughter’s RD application status area changed to include housing choice tab. She has heard nothing from the school but thought it strange this tab just appeared. Anyone else shed some light here?
Nothing on my page has changed, still has application checklist…
@Elvisdadog Are you talking about the main Albert home page or the Application status page where it shows only the checklist?
Main Albert home page has just 2 tabs “Applicant” and “Other Resources”. On the applicant page, it has 3 vertical tabs - Home, Transfer Credit and Financial Aid.
If you have housing choice tab, it seems that she got in.
Under Albert- right under view application status it says NYU Housing Payments. She clicked on it but there was nothing there. That tab was not there when she last checked
The Albert page also has three buttons, view application status, NYU housing payments, and scholarship HS and summer. Is that what you see? Or are you referring to a new tab that says Housing Choice?
Is she ED 2 applicant?
No, I’m sure it’s just coincidental. She was not sure if she needed to do something or missed something. NYU is a top choice forher so she wants to make sure her application is complete and correct! Lol
