Congratulations to all those who got in, you all are amazing and part of NYU’s most selective class. It’s the first time ever that NYU’s acceptance rate has dipped below 20%. To those who did not get in, you guys should be so proud of yourselves too. It was a really difficult fight, and as we all know college admissions aren’t a perfect process. Good thoughts to all
I got into University of Michigan, but since I am out of state I would have to pay the full tuition. NYU gave me a 40,000$ CAS Scholarship (not sure what they looked for cause my grades aren’t like amazing) so I might just end up at NYU. Kinda bummed though I loveeeee University of Michigan!
@Tambor12345 hey…that’s really good…i mean NYU is so expensive and getting a 40000$ scholarship… That’s really amazing!!!
Well…what were your stats…I’ll be applying for class of 2023…!!!
@Sam123nyu My extracurriculars were ice skating, cross country (captain, varsity, MVP and designed shirts for 2 years), track (varsity), ceramics (took some classes at community college and won some competitions) and art (same thing won some competitions)
My recommendation letters were very strong: one from my chemistry teacher (I have worked with her for 3 years), my psych teacher, and my ceramics professor from community college
My grades weren’t that great:
GPA: 3.71UW
SAT: 1360
I took like 3 classes in community college and got an A in all of them, but I don’t know how they factored that in.
I took about 10APs (counting this year, 2 sophomore year, 3 junior year, 5 senior year
So I think it was my essay that set me apart along with my letters of rec. For Boston University I was able to send a portfolio too so that prob helped in that college.
Is it worth going to NYU? They gave me a full tuition scholarship through CAS and then I have a $3000 workstudy, but that still leaves around $20000 per year I would have to take out mainly in loans. I also got into Grinnell (that would be $7000 a year).
our daughter got accepted for global liberal studies with first year in london. how easy it is to switch majors? she has interests in bio-medical engineering and HCI
@mastapasta I got the same exact financial aid package as you. I’m a CAS philosophy major. Anyways, keep in mind that NYU predicts total cost of attendance based on you living in the most expensive dorm. Rubin, where I’m hoping to live, costs $8300 for the year, so other than the $2500 mandatory 225 flex meal plan, if you get Rubin, in the efficiency suite for 3 people, it’ll cost you about $8300. If you apply for some scholarships and win some, it’ll help a lot. I’m hoping to work for $2500 to pay for the meal plan, then I’ve won some scholarships, and my parents will cover the rest.
@MM2018 Our son also got into that program and will be in London. To be honest it sounds quite amazing. He was interested in public policy and IR (law school down the road). We were not expecting this.
I just researched the heck out of that program and they have 100% employment or grad school prospects after finishing their degree. They go to top grad schools including medical schools. I don’t know what your daughters interests are for the long term, but take a deep look at it.
I did call and they did say he could switch after sophomore year if he wanted to.
@lenasharb I just realized , I think us now as transfers do not have ED and EA and all those specials anymore. They are only for freshmen. For us, we will have to apply after the freshmen apply if there are any room and then we get scrutinized by the admissions office
I got into the liberal core program and i have to spend my first year in paris. How difficult is it to change cities? Like for instance if instead of paris i want to spend my first year in london, would it be possible?
@Mmrosa It is fair, since my budget (at max) would be 50k and I just have to pay 30k annualy. Were you waitlisted at NYUNY and sent to NYUSH or were u waitlisted at NYUSH? if so I will most likely be withdrawing so that will open a slot…
