[ b]Why you think you were accepted/not accepted and general comments:**
Admitted? into Tandon school of engineering
1480 superscored SAT
International student
Biomedical engineering was my second choice though.
I really hoped I would get in for biological sciences
Admitted to Steinhardt for social studies education
SAT: 1230 super scored
SAT II: US History 700 (can’t remember if I sent that test in thought)
Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Rank: N/A
AP: Junior Year: AP Lang (4) + AP World (5) (my school only offered these when I was a junior. They also offered AP psychology, but you couldn’t take all three)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc AB, AP Lit, AP 2D Studio Art, and AP Human Geography
Extracurriculars: Created an equity based learning website, tutored, created an elective class in my school and started a school club. I like to write (articles) and had a few published.
Job/Work Experience: Worked at a daycare as a teacher’s assistant and office worker, as an editorial editor for a women’s rights organization (edited blog posts people would send in)
Volunteer/Community service: Worked for two political campaigns
Summer Activities: I had to stay home during summers and help my mom with my siblings, I did as much as I could from home, like the editorial editor position mentioned above and the daycare job.
Essays: I wrote about why I love tutoring. I didn’t love my essay, but I am very particular about writing and have never written something I didn’t LOVE before, so my college essay idea and writing of it was super difficult for me.
Teacher Recommendations: One from my US teacher + one from my math teacher who I helped her students once and a while. I was a very likable, very helpful, smart kid.
Counselor Recommendation: My counselor barely knew me personally, how she wrote my letter, I have no idea. To be fair, I should have better aquatinted myself with her earlier in high school – I highly recommend juniors, even sophomores, to do this.
State: New York!
School Type: Very small
Ethnicity: Arab
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: Poor, very poor is all you need to know. Big family, small one bedroom apartment (insert shrugging girl emoji)
Extenuating Circumstances: Did I mention we were poor?
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First generation college student, my parents weren’t very supportive of my education and didn’t share the same values.
Hope that helped!
