The full article can be found at New York University.

Quote from the article:

"41,058 potential members of NYUs class of 2015 applied for approximately 4,800 seats at the Washington Square Campus of NYU, an 11-percent increase over last year. Of that number, 4,670 asked also to be considered for admission to the Abu Dhabi campus.

1,184 applicants asked to be considered for the Abu Dhabi campus only, a 24-percent increase over last years inaugural class at Abu Dhabi, and when combined with the 4,670 applicants interested in being considered for both campuses, represents 5,854 total applicants competing for some 150 seats at NYU Abu Dhabi, the Worlds Honors College."

GL everyone. I thought the applications were supposed to be going down after last year, but I guess not.

well GREAT. this is just scary!! :(

thanks good luck to you too. I guess we REALLY REALLY REALLY need it.

ahhh!!

lorrainedelis,

I am a parent with a son who is now a freshman at NYU CAS. So, fortunately, I’m not part of this crazy “rat race.” I did get a taste of it last year through my son who was super busy and went through the APs, SAT Is, SAT IIs, ACT, essay, ECs, recommendation letters, etc. etc. etc. Fortunately, he had a great time doing what he loved. And now he really loves NYU. He cannot imagine being anywhere else.

I guess I wanted the applicants for the class of 2015 to know what they are up against. These stats used to be for the IVYs. Now the IVYs have gotten much harder to get into and other tier I schools are following not too far behind. BUT students do get in and some really love the experience (like my son). The best to you.

By the way, even though there are only approximately 4800 seats at Washington SQ NYU, the school accepts far more than that number, because they expect that not everyone accepted will take NYU up on its offer of acceptance. Last year, the acceptance rate for NYU CAS was around 26-28%. So, it may go down a couple of percentages with the increased applications (my guess only).

many students apply for multiple colleges
i bet 20-30% of the applicants apply for the IVY league colleges as well
and dont consider NYU as their first choices
also, as people are getting poorer
the smart kids would like to apply for NYU because of the scholarship
(thats why some people predict that Cooper Union would hav a higher competitive rate than Harvard this year)

^ what are you talking about? NYU doesn’t give adequate financial aid. If students were worried of being poor, then they wouldn’t be going to NYU.
And Harvard covers entire tuition costs for students whose family income is below 60,000.

When I read this on the website, it made me go “oh crap.” But that makes sense that they accept more, because 4800 seats and 41,000 applicants is only like 12%. You have people who apply to all ivies and NYU, and then you have people like me, who NYU far exceeds every other school she applied to. But yes, best of luck to all the RDers.

just GREAT. I thought they would have a record LOW this year because of the recession…

The NYU application rates were not even affected last year when the GREAT RECESSION was right in front of our eyes.

Actually, recessions usually mean stronger business for the universities. People cannot get jobs and opt to go back to school for more training or a more marketable degree.

Though, of course, NYU does, in part, cater to a more affluent group anyway since it is well know that most people have to pay most of the way for their NYU degree.

Hmm What about Stern?

thanks evolving!! I hope I get in…2 more months til we all know!
