NYU Regular Decision 2018 Discussion

@ArthurPen57 Great job, congratulations! You must be a very talented person! I am not sure if the Gallatin scholarship is renewable for the following years. I would assume so as long as your GPA is kept up and your financial need is same. It is my understanding that NYU admissions uses the tier system where they put you in tiers of desirability and then financial aid distributes the scholarships and aid according to who from the top tiers is in need of the $$$$. The website does state that scholarships are based on both merit/talent and need. Good luck to you at Gallatin! My son was also accepted!

I think NYU looks solely on need, period. It not a loss for me, I will be attending USC school of cinematic arts.

@ljomes No he was considered automatically … I got a $43k package at CAS. I think it’s more how much they desire you + need than merit(stats) [I know people poorer than me with better stats who got less than $10k from NYU]

It’s April 2nd and I still haven’t gotten an e-mail. I log onto Albert and there’s no admission information for me as well. Does this imply that I have gotten rejected or waitlisted? What can I do?

i dont think its only need cause i got 37k in scholarship for one year and my dad makes more that 100k

How do you know your scholarship is only for one year? Did it say so in your acceptance letter?

Has anyone also checked NYU Albert and saw that their financial aid package is “award access not available?” I’m an international student and I am very worried. I called them and all they said was that it just isn’t available. Does anybody know when they will release this information and if I should be worried about my package.

rejected

I am pretty sure those who got merits are those who had submitted application for financial aid. I didn’t apply for financial aid and didn’t submit anything so there is no basis for need.
@heycall123‌ my dad makes several times than that, but I just feel sad that they just assume I don’t need money myself.

Waitlisted and proud! lol
NYU was my reach school and I didn’t really think I would get in.
I only had a 3.6 GPA and 1720 SAT.
I did have a lot of EC’s, volunteer hours, and a killer essay though  (at least that’s what everyone who proofread it said)
Good luck to everyone!

I don’t know if anyone has asked this but does anyone one what the total cost of NYU is? With tuition, room and board, etc…

yes. it says its just for one year.

oops sorry meant to say 37k per year so i get that amount each year.

@penguin000 the total cost of attending NYU for now is estimated at $66,000. But do not forget that tuition might go up next year.

@leb2014 Thanks! Do you mind if i ask where you got this number?

Accepted to Steinhart for Music Education with a $31,570 Steinhart Scholarship!
SAT: 1950
GPA (weighted): 103.47
Rank: 25/466
5 AP’s
Tons of music EC’s and leadership
I firmly believe what won them over was my essay accompanying my audition and audition interview.

@penguin000 from the fin aid packet offered for - fall 2014… one scholarship for 10k and the rest on loans and work study totaling 66k… you probably want to review previous posts from this thread.

Posted this on FA thread but wanted to also ask here, in case others are wondering why their FA report is not in.

My daughter just got an email that they have not been able to upload her FAFSA or CSS because she did not supply her social security number. Yet there has never been anything on her “to do” list. Her SS number was on the common app, no? How is it even possible to get admitted to the university without a social security number, and why didn’t they request this information previously?

correct it is in CA under profile - citizenship. I also remember that my D school told her to make sure she report it in school as it needed to be part of her transcripts. we did not have that issue. she was accepted but unable to afford the COA of $66K per year. scholarship only 10K, this is second kid. we were hoping for more as we already have one in private college in the west coast and a third one and at one point they will all overlap . good luck with your FA packet

International Student Accepted to NYU Poly for Computer Science in Engineering with a $26,172 School of Engineering Scholarship!

SAT:2110 ( CR: 670, MATH: 760, W: 680)
SAT II: PHY 580 MATH 1 690
RANK : 3/150
Ec’s: School choir, Art Club, Dance club (choreographer), Volunteer at Educational Society, Computer Club and a lot more.
Good essay (Worked REALLY hard on it)
12th grade finals percentage: 92%

Let’s just say that hard work definitely pays off. I’m just kind of apprehensive about accepting because the cost of attendance is still pretty high.
