***NYU Regular Decision Class of 2021 Discussion***

@SpicyRamen can you please tell me what they say about your FA? thanks

@Fishnlines29 Yeah I put LSP as a second choice, and I got NYC for my 1st year campus. I guess CAS was full by the time they got to my application, if it even works that way.

@qwertyyy123 I donā€™t think it works that way  Is NYU your first choice? Do you have other options? You should sign up and go to the admitted students day and sit in the LSP session - I think itā€™s Sunday April 23rd. That way you can see if you like it and if it makes sense to do that for two years and transfer into CAS third year.

@Fishnlines29 I love NYU but unfortunately my entire FA package was made up of loans and attending doesnā€™t seem too feasible :frowning:

@qwertyyy123 Oh, ok, then I guess itā€™s out of the picture anyway, no point in dwelling on it! Do you have other options with good FA?

@Fishnlines29 Yeah, I guess I was just a little curious. And my family technically doesnā€™t have any real ā€œneedā€ but we also cannot afford 60-70k a year, which is what all the OOS schools cost nowadays. I got some merit from other schools that makes the private schoolsā€™ costs more affordable, and I have a pretty good state flagship school. I would have loved to come to NYU if they had given me at least a little bit of FA or scholarship money, but itā€™s not really up to us at the end of the day.

@qwertyyy123 Ok, well Iā€™m happy you have some other good optionsā€¦ Good luck!!

@Fishnlines29 Thanks, likewise! :slight_smile:

@cyborgx my events calendar was blank for 2 days since my acceptance, and just yesterday all the events showed up on albert. donā€™t worry about it too much

@imasian111 @SpicyRamen we need to get in touch often. Let us create a group on Whatsapp or Facebook. Provide your emails first then we will discuss and choose a platform to advance our communications. Thanks.

@atown2017 Did you join the admitted students fb page? If you join that, there are plenty of subgroups already happening thereā€¦

@Fishnlines29, yes I did join the group but I have never seen anyone post about creating a group for Tandon accepted students.

@indiahyland mine is not updated yet. My suspicion is that they have not yet released any financial aid information for international students. They might be reviewing ours now. Is there any international student who has received financial aid package with their acceptance letter? I donā€™t think there is an international student who has received the package as of yet.

@spicyramen let us know what the financial aid officers say after you call them. Thanks

@PAwind98 I am not 100% committed since I havenā€™t seen my financial aid package yet.

are they intensely strict about the css profile? i submitted it a day late and i canā€™t find any information about its status other than ā€œreceivedā€ on the to do list in the portal. i know nyu is stingy, im probably not going because itā€™s so expensive, iā€™m just curious.

i was admitted into LSP after making my first choice gallatin, and it makes sense to me that i was admitted there. my stats arenā€™t the best, but as far as i know and have researched, LSP is like a junior Gallatin. rumors about it being the ā€œdumberā€ program at nyu are mostly false. most kids admitted express an interest in several areas, and iā€™m guessing that itā€™s a way to have more undecided students get to choose, in the end.

Does anyone know how I would go about appealing to the Financial Aid department? I would need to pay 20k in loans or not apply for housing which is an option for me since my family is okay with moving to Brooklyn. Is there anyway I can reduce my loans by appealing, or can i get out of housing, or if i cant can NYU assure me I would get the cheapest housing option possible (Rubin)?

@stressedlol4801 You wont be able to appeal unless you can show a significant change in circumstance since you first gave them your paperwork. (Sudden unexpected medical bills, loss of job, etc.)

You can call them and ask them about changing to commuter status and what that would cost - for now, you could estimate dropping the room / board number (add some personal expense for commuting). Not sure if they will give you commuting status though if you donā€™t have a place to commute from just yet. You might have to prove residency, but I donā€™t know, you should call and ask.
