@isabelmars17 If you check on the Common App, there should be a button that lets you know if the school requires a mid-year report. NYU does require it.
I applied to Tandon and was wondering would anyone be willing to Chance Me? I am super stressed out as NYU is close to the top of my list school-wise.
For reference, I applied to 17 (debating an 18th school) which were: Fordham, GA Tech, RPI, Northeastern, UPenn, Cornell, Brown, NYU, UTampa, UF, CU Boulder, Penn State, UMichigan, Tulane, Stevens Institute of Technology, Colby, and Carleton. (we are deliberating Trinity College Dublin currently, but I will probably end up applying)
So far, been accepted into Penn State, Fordham, UTampa, and CU Boulder; Deferred from Tulane and UMichigan; Rejected from UPenn (ED)
OOS White Male (FL) in a VERY competitive, affluent public school with about 610 kids in my class.
Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering
1430 superstore sat I (700 M, 730 R/W)
33 superstore act (35 R, 35 W, 32 M, 28 S) (kicking myself for not retaking to emphasize M and S)
No subject tests (kicking myself for this too)
3.92/4.0 UW GPA
Class ranking and W GPA is the strangest, most jacked up system that was ever created so I won’t even mention it for lack of an explanation as to how it works.
APS: 9th grade- Human Geo. (4)
10th grade- World History (3)
11th grade- Stat (3) APUSH (3)
12th grade- Physics C: ME, Env. Sci., Calc AB, European History, Psychology (predicted 5s on all of them)
ECs: Captain of globally ranked soccer team (won states twice, participated in global tournaments against junior national teams from across the world) (9-11)
Starter on varsity high school soccer team (top 50 nationally) (9-11)
Over 200 volunteer hours (organized many events and fundraisers for variety of things all affiliated with one charity)(9-12)
Mechanical Engineering Internship (12) (youngest intern at specific company ever and they invited me back next summer)
Organized a hurricane relief fundraiser in the days following Hurricanes Irma and Dorian as local/somewhat close regions were affected (10 and 12)
Peacemakers service club Parliamentarian- club in our school to practice peer mediations and solve conflicts b/w students so they don’t get in serious trouble. (11-12)
NHS member- self explanatory (10-12)
Beta Club member- also self explanatory (10-12)
Co-Founded the Mental Health Walk which is a fundraiser to raise awareness for the importance of mental health and promoting the message that “It’s okay to not be okay” (12)
LOTS more volunteering but its sort of minor and not emphasized on my application (9-12)
LORS: AP Physics teacher: 8/10, loves me and I work hard in her class
Alg. 2 and AP Stat Teacher: 8/10, loves me and we have a very close relationship but the grammar in the letter wasn’t the best as English isn’t her first language so idk if that is a bad thing
Chem teacher: 10/10 loves me, very close relationship (i.e. drove 2 hours to watch me play in state semi-finals for club soccer) and I did extremely well in her class
Club Soccer Coach: 10/10, very, very, close relationship and emphasized my work ethic and leadership as well as commending my intelligence on the field (not meant to sound cocky but idk how to describe it other than ‘soccer smarts’)
Counsellor: 6/10, generic since class is so big but I gave lots of information for her to work with, didn’t have close relationship.
Responsibilities: My mentally and physically disabled aunt lives with my family and I take care of her since both my parents work full time jobs (cooking, cleaning, various physical tasks, etc.) and with a demanding course load for senior year, I had to quit competitive and high school soccer to be able to take care of her, but I became captain of a local travel recreational team so that I was still able to play. I also explained how this impacted the time allotted for me to study for my classes and why my GPA and AP scores are relatively low since I spend upwards of two hours per day assisting her without the ability to intermittently do homework or study.
Awards/Honors: Commended for National Merit
Won the Florida Goal of the Year 2018-2019 (scored the best goal in all of Florida out of every age group and both genders)
Won the SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) Student Scholarship Award but I forgot to include in the app. so its irrelevant lol.
Essays: CommonApp- wrote about my career goals and illustrated the fact that these have been my goals since a very young age and how I based my activities and life around preparing for that career (which is very unique and niche) 8/10
NYU Statement- wrote a very straightforward essay about how I would utilize all of the specific resources and study abroad programs to propel me into my career, it was well written but may have seemed a little bit formulated/generic 6-7/10
Overall, I think my application was quite average but I have heard different things regarding Tandon so I was curious as to what your opinions were. Thank you so much!!
Could someone chance me for Tandon? I applied RD to NYU.

@LyricalLeader , for engineering, why would you choose NYU over Michigan?
I never mentioned about going to NYU over Michigan. However, cost of attendance. Michigan works out nearly USD 70k, with no aid or scholarship opportunities whatsoever. There’s no way my parents are gonna pay that, or can, as a matter of fact. NYU, on the other hand, is 1) in NYC, 2) may give me a scholarship, 3) is a smaller school than Michigan, which I’d really like.
Ok, NYU is not exactly generous with funding especially for internationals, good luck. Hopefully someone on your list comes through with enough funding so you can attend. All those acceptances are state universities which are generally not great to OOS for funding, did you apply to privates that offer international aid too?
I got ≈ a full ride from Michigan State, a 25k/year scholarship from Minnesota and hoping to get some scholarship from Ohio as well. Penn State is affordable for my family.
I applied to 15 colleges, most are private.
My son applied to NYU Stern for RD. He has received an email from NYU admissions on fill up a survey.

Questions:
- Did anyone receive this type of email?
- Is it a genuine email?
Please provide input. Thanks in advance.
@LyricalLeader great to know you have some good options! Congrats.
@MyCollege2024 the sender email returns to Qualtrics, a reputed company for this type of survey, but you can always confirm with NYU itself that it is genuine.
@MyCollege2024 My daughter also applied RD to NYU Stern, and she also received this same email.
Hi everyone. I’m from NY and applied RD to Arts and Sciences! I also got the same email.
Ok Thank you all.
@MyCollege2024 - I ended up applying to ED II to NYUAD and am hoping for an invitation email this week to the Candidate Weekend event in Abu Dhabi, so my heart skipped a beat when that same email that your son received showed up in my email folder. That was cruel timing by NYU marketing! lol
Do we think decisions will be released on Ivy Day which is March 26th this year?
@MyCollege2024 I also got the survey today.
My older brother graduated from NYU CAS in Comp Sci a few years ago, if anyone has any questions. For all of you worrying about financial aid, they gave him a great scholarship for all four years. He said everyone there was super helpful to him: his advisor, his teachers, admissions, & fin aid office. He lived in Rubin his freshman year at 10th and 5th Avenue and made some great friends. If anyone has any questions, hmu and I’ll ask him.
Does anyone know how selective liberal studies is specifically global liberal studies RD?

For all the applicants to Stern, I was accepted ED1 and this was my profile.

Remember that Stats aren’t everything! Just focus on writing that fire essay and you’ll be fine. Good luck everyone!
@LyricalLeader
Your chance of admission is great! As you have already got accepted into UMich, I don’t find it hard for you to get in NYU tandon. One factor that could be decisive is if you are applying for financial aid or not. If yes, then it’s slightly tough to get in because they aren’t generous with aids for international applicants. Best of luck for your college decisions!
Since you are from India, could you tell if you don’t mind which city and school do you go to?
