NYU regular vs. NYU Stern

Does anyone know how much harder it is to get into NYU Stern than just the normal school? Also what kind of stats are "require" or is average for the people who gets in. Sorry it's a very vague question, but I kinda really want to know.

Stats:
Gpa- 3.3 uw (took almost all honors classes throughout, but not APs)
SAT- 1990
SAT II- chem: 690 mathII:760
EC: pretty well "outside" ec but haven't done much sports in school.

I know my stats are great and all, but what are my chances for NYU and NYU Stern?

Stern I'm gonna say no. Sorry man, but I don't even think I'm getting in, and my stuffs a smidge higher than yours. It's a tough school to get into.

^ if not, could you at least tell me how much harder it is to get into than regular NYU?

if by regular, you mean the other schools at NYU, then I think Stern is significantly harder to get into. I was accepted into Stern ED just last week. Although the rest of the school does not lag far behind, I think that Stern average scores are higher than the rest. I dont thi9nk I would have applied ED if I would have wanted to go into CAS or Steinhardt, etc.
If byregular, you meant you meant Stern RD vs. ED, the ED pool is statistically yielding a higher acceptance rate. This is because when you apply ED, the Adcoms dont take space into consideration, but when you apply RD, space is factored into acceptance. I dont thnk I would have gotten in RD.

^ no by regular i meant the college of arts and sciences (liberal arts basically)...congrats on ur acceptance, could you post the stats u had please?

yea, then refer to the first part of my comment.

3.8 GPA UW 4.0 W
Most rigorous schedule offered.
1260 SAT [CR+M]
Lots of good EC's
okay awards
multiple leadership positions
Very good essays
one really good letter of rec, one good one.
URM, 1st gen college student [which is the only reason I think I got in!]
so yea, I was below the average stern kid. If you really want to go into business but dont think you can get into stern, try to go into CAS Economics.

Well, if you want acceptance stats, then here are mine: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/592997-help-help-potential-nyu-stern-applicant.html

I was accepted into Stern Early Decision, and I do not think I would have gone in if I applied Regular Decision. Good luck trying to get in. I think your GPA might take you out of the running, but you never know, your EC's and Essays might get you in. NYU Stern is much more difficult to get into than Regular because it is ranked I think top 15 across the board for business, and I think top 5 across the board for finance, which is substancially better than any other school in NYU ( arguably Tisch, which is difficult too.)

does anyone know the average stats for Stern applicants, like SAT ACT GPA and if the recession has at all affected the number of applicants…cause everyone knows Stern is pricy

I know some students got into nyu stern already. Does that mean all the letters are out or do they do it in batches. Is it a rejection at this point. I’m in Los Angeles.

Hey! I’m a senior whose getting ready for college. Can you guys evaluate me and tell me your opinions on whether you think i can get into Stern or not? I’m debating over whether I should be doing Early Decision or not… would my chances be higher if I did?

Cumulative GPA: 3.45 (unweighted)
I take the IB diploma program, so I’m pretty sure my GPA would get weighted depending on the schools. I know my GPA isn’t the best, and this is my GPA so far from Junior year. If I go early, then this is what they would be seeing. If I apply normally, my GPA this semester I know would be higher, but then again the acceptance rate would go down if I apply with everyone else… right?

My GPA for Junior Year was 3.57 and 3.625

SAT scores

SAT I
Math - 750
Critical Reading - 700
Writing - 800
Total: 2250
(Best sittings combined)

SAT II
American History - 760
Math IIC - 710

Are my chances okay? Do you think I will be able to get in? I’m hoping my admission essay, other activities and SAT scores make up for my GPA. I also attend an international school in Japan. Thanks for the help!

alhyunsoo Stop hi-jacking threads by asking for chances, just create your own thread.

@OP
Stern seems kindof unlikely from this point, esp. considering the fact that you haven’t taken any AP’s and your GPA is just a B+ average and your SAT scores are comparatively low (does your school offer AP’s? If not, than it’s a totally different story). NYU CAS may even be somewhat of a reach, applying the same reasoning as above.

If you can bump up your SAT to a 2100 that would help A LOT.

I am a senior who thinks to apply to NYU CAS, Steinhardt or Stern under ED. I dont know which school i should choose. I think of applying to communications in Steinhardt or anything in Ster. Can you help meeeee??? Here are my statistics
Gpa: 90 (top 5 percent in a very competitive school )
no ap or honors courses offered in school but very demanding classes
Sat 1: CR 590, Math 760, Writing 710 (best scores)
I hope to raise my CR scores on the next test
SAT2: Math 1 : 760
Math 2: 800
toefl: 109
Summer school experience in ivy leagues
work experience for two summers
good extra curriculars
some awards
very good essays
very good recommendations
