I have just been accepted to preston robert tisch center for early decision II. I am planning on majoring in hospitality management. On my acceptance email it says " We expect that you will remain in the rigorous program of study you presented in your application, so you must secure permission from NYU before altering your academic schedule. To secure permission, you may send an email to admissions.ops@nyu.edu with your request."

I am freaking out because I have dropped AP Calculus right after midterms. I had a final grade of C when I dropped and I did so because I was sure I was going to end up with a F. THe problem is on the first transcript I sent to NYU prior to my decision was made it said I was taking three AP classes - AP Calc., AP Eng, and AP Stat. While I am still taking and earning good grades in the other two AP classes I am now in regular calculus class. So, when the final transcript is sent to NYU I am scared that the admissions officers might rescind my admission since I did not "secure permission from nyu before altering my academic schedule." AND there is no way I can go back to AP calc as of now, they are already half way done with their semester.

AM I SCREWED?! My guidance counselor told me to call them tomorrow, saying that I dropped the class because we dont have a lab compared to most other schools (which I dont even know if its true) My parents are saying that I should NOT call since I would have gotten in with or without AP calculus so they wouldnt care about the level change.

What do you guys think? should I call NYU admissions tomorrow and tell them I dropped AP calc... btw I have not yet accepted my offer of admissions (since it only came two days ago) HELP :(

Adcoms will be far more unhappy to find out that you hid the fact that you dropped AP Calc until the end of the year when they receive your transcripts, than to hear it from you now. Just explain the situation and be honest. Being honest, dealing with problems when they come up (Calling and asking NYU about it) shows maturity - and colleges like maturity.

You can also contact NYU by sending an email to the link they provided on your acceptance letter and explain honestly that you transferred from AP calc to Calculus with Applications, (which is usually considered an advanced or honors level class). You didn’t drop out of calculus completely, you transferred into a class/level that was more appropriate for you. Explain that you made the change prior to being admitted to NYU, but that the transcript they received from your HS doesn’t reflect the change. Keep it simple and don’t mention the lack of a lab (ie, my son took AP Calc and they didn’t have a lab).

It won’t hurt to let them know how pleased and excited you are to be attending NYU next year! I’d be very surprised if this caused a problem for you, but you should definitely be honest and proactive about letting them know of the change.

Yeah tell them before they have to see it themselves. It shouldn’t matter too much if you’re not doing a math heavy major. And like some others have said, you didn’t drop math altogether. AP Calc is hard!

Just relax! I dont think anything wrong was done. We didnt even send end of year report card in when my daughter was accepted and now she will be graduationg from NYU in May!
