NYU Residence Halls

thanks for the responses caromage. i think this year they changed it so that all RD freshmen can now list their preference of dorms

hey can someone tell me everything they know about 3rd north..... experiences, social life, partying, convenience?

Caromage--

Did you go into any of your friends' low cost triples in Rubin? I got placed in one without requesting one. Are they the same size as the suite doubles or the regular doubles? Were they ridiculously cramped?

I am considering going to NYC Summer; grad pysch class. OMG already. I definately want AC and be very close to class. What apt. style dorms are close by to Arts and Sciences.

Has anyone done the NYU summer?

this is a pretty old thread, but i did NYU summer. i'm a junior now, and i did it last year. i stayed in goddard hall, which is a traditional dorm. super close to Silver/CAS, but you're required to have a meal plan.

since you're a grad, i would recommend 2nd street. it's a little further from campus, but they're all single suites in the summer, which can be handy if you want to have your privacy. some of the dorms that are CLOSEST to campus do not have kitchens, which would suck.

Applicants | Overview Of Program | Rates

also, if you stay in a dorm w/o a kitchen they REQUIRE you to buy a mealplan. Pay the extra and the room with a kitchen

I am wanting to go to NYU, and I was wondering if you get to choose what building you want to be in, or just the type of the room.

How much difference does it really make? I was planning on going apt-style, but now that Third North also requires a minimum 75 flex meal plan, I'm not so sure, especially since all the upperclass dorms are apartment-style anyway and I'll get a chance to do my own cooking then anyway. Taking into account freshmen, even in Third North, must still be on at least the 75 flex, would you consider the additional expense worth it?

Another thing - if you request low-cost housing, is it guaranteed? Can you request low-cost housing but only for a particular dorm - let's say I'd like a LCT in Third North, but if I can't get that I'd go for a standard suite in Weinstein - can I make that request?

Once you fill in your housing application, you can email the housing department to make your requests. Nothing is guaranteed, but you can try.
Last year, D wanted only low cost for Hayden and not for Rubin.

OK, thanks! A little antsy because of the $$ situation, especially since I'm depending on scholarships but won't know my room assignment until August.

Bump… I would rather ask on here than make a new forum
What is othmer like? What is the social scene etc.?
