nyu scholarships

what is:
1. trustee scholarship
2. provost grant
3. university grant

did anybody else get them and how are they decided?

I got a Provost grant and a trustee scholarship. 13K each. It was crazy.

Trustee scholarships, for Tisch, they're talent based.

I don't know what all of those grants are for or what they are based on. My D got a Trustee Scholarship for all four years that is 20K per year. She is in Tisch. I do not think it is solely on talent. I am not sure. I was told it is merit (not sure what the merit is...whether talent, academic or both) and that if someone is a FA applicant, the amount of the scholarship will be impacted to take need into account. So, for some it is just merit and for some who applied for FA, the merit scholarship amount may be affected by need as well.

My D is now a senior in Tisch. This year, she got three other smaller scholarships and we don't know what any of them are based on. Each has a different name. They just appeared on our statement.

My dd didn't get anything close to those numbers with regards to grants. We are really struggling to figure out how to make this work....I wonder if you can beg for more grant money? She is also at Tisch - film

You can always ask NYU for more money, worst they can say is no:)

You can appeal for more money, but apparently NYU's very stingy about giving out more money.

No scholarships for international students : (

My son has a Carroll and Milton Petrie Scholarship (no it wasn't listed on the NYU site but they left NYU money to give out to worthy students) and a Trustee Scholarship, 15K Each for 4 years. And he asked for and got a 1K CAS scholarship for the 2nd semester (of his upcoming sophomore year). He did make the Dean's list as a freshman. FWIW, his SAT was 2250

I believe there was a letter from NYU President John Sexton last spring that said they were going to do more need based, rather than merit based need. I interpret that to mean that if your EFC is really high (30-50K)and they know you have the money (and NYU doesn't use housing value), then you are going to get less aid (ie, free money) than a person with really low EFC (0-20K). There are people who go to NYU who are eligible for Pell grants. They want to make college more affordable for students with financial need.

Let's put it this way, even with a 30K scholarship and Perkins and Stafford loans, I'm still paying every cent and more of my EFC of 11.5K

I think I will have an EFC of 0 and was accepted into Stern ED. Can anyone guesstimate as to how much I will get?
