Hey! I applied to NYU Stern and NYU Shanghai ED1, and I just got an email asking to have an online interview for Shanghai.

In previous emails, the Assistant Dean said that they were only interviewing competitive candidates... however the website, under FAQs, says that all applicants will be interviewed.

I was just wondering if anyone else applied and got requested for an interview also. I was really happy at first, then after reading the interview I felt a lot confused. haha

PS- I was under the impression that NYU Shanghai would not be doing Candidate Weekends like Abu Dhabi, but under the same FAQ it said that it would.

I have exactly the same question! And i even felt the same, first, i was really exicted, but after reading the email I felt really confused, because in previous email one day ago admissions manager Wilkins said they would contact competetive candidates for interview after all application had been reviewed. But this FAQ… There are so mane people who applied, i don’t khow how many exactly, but i think a lot. It will be impossiple to interview all of them, don’t you think so? In any case, we should be glad that we got this opportunity!
And about CW, they said that theu were not going to do it THIS YEAR, i guess it’s because of financial hardships.

Oh my gosh someone replied!
How do you know they got a lot of applications? Cause I either figured that they only interview competitive candidates (which I hope is true… And I’m starting to think is true considering that you were also told that and the website says there would be a CW, when its definitely not gomma happen) or they got a lot less applications than they expected and they thought it worth interviewing everyone.

Also, they asked for an interview 15 days before the admissions decisions are going out?!? That’s pretty crazy.
What school are you applying to (for NYU New York) and what are your stats like?

I think getting an interview is a good sign for you guys. Because I got rejected to NYUSH and they didn’t contact me for any interviews. My decision email only included the acceptance to NYU New York.

Oh! someone bumped this thread xD Yeah I was the OP, and I actually got accepted as far as interviews go there’re only interviewing competitive canidates, but congrats on your acceptance Andalousie!
I haven’t a clue how many people applied to NYUSH, the only figures I know for sure are that 16 international students (any applicee outside China) were accepted EDI and there were 500 Chinese students invited to the Candidates Weekend in February/March. There is only a candidates weekend for the Chinese students, international students are interviewed over Skype.
Good luck Johnhawkes! Keep us updated if you get accepted! Where are you from?

thanks!
I’m from the us, you?
Did I get into stern
I actually applied to stern as well RD
my gpa,'s kinda low 3.6
but I have a 2390
but like no business related ECs haha
what do they ask over Skype??
I suck at interviews

oh wow! Actually, if you are accepted into your first choice school, they dont tell you about whether you were accepted into another (atleast for the ED students they didn’t- im not sure if that holds true for RD also). Its confusing because I originally listed NYU Stern as my primary campus of interest, and NYUSH as my secondary. However, in my interview I mentioned that if I could go to either one, that I would choose NYUSH. So the next day, on my Albert account, NYUSH was listed first where Stern was before. If you know that you would choose NYUSH over Stern I highly recommend mentioning that to the interviewers- they really do listen. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t haha.

I’m from the US also, theres only a few students accepted from the US to NYUSH so far, so im always excited to see someone from here interested. Your stats are pretty similar to mine! My GPA is 3.75uw/4.30w, and I submitted the ACT instead, and I got a 32 on that. As far as extras, I did a lot of activities and volunteering, but no business ECs either!
Your board scores are much higher than mine that should more than make up for the fact that your GPA is kinda low (but its really not that low at all actually…)
I wish I could tell you if I was accepted to Stern or not, I realize that info isn’t much help at all

Either way, good luck! I hope you get in wherever you want to go the most! (although I’m partial to you going to NYUSH )

I know like nothing about nyu shanghai though
I just marked the “consider me for this campus as well” box
so y ru picking shanghai over stern? to become fluent in Chinese?
I’m half asian with some family in shanghai
and I’ve heard the city is really cool and modern now

@andalousie Well, Ive talked to some people and it seems that NYUSH has been very generous with Financial Aid for those who need it. However, for as far as scholarships and FA above that needed as reported on the FAFSA (for US residents), I know that I didn’t get any there. So no scholarships for me

@johnhawkes Yeah, I would really love to be fluent in Chinese by the time I graduate (something that Stern couldn’t really offer) and fluency is a graduation requirement for NYUSH And as far as the Skype interview- dont sweat it! The interviewers are really friendly and don’t really ask questions. They just talk about what NYUSH will be like, and the only questions that they really asked were why I would want to live in Shanghai and about a time I went outside of my comfort zone (haha). It was really more like a conversation- I think they legitimately want to get to know you and a sense of what you could bring to the community.

I accidentally clicked yes when the common app asked me if I should be considered for both schools. While I would love to go to another country, my parents aren’t comfortable with me flying 15 hours to Shanghai.

I’m kind of worried that I already got rejected from NYU’s new york campus. I mean I have a 3.6 GPA and a 2200 SAT score, but it doesn’t look good if a secondary school choice is asking to interview me.

Don’t worry - Shanghai is a completely different entity, so you’re application is being read by two different admission offices. So this has nothing to do with your New York application. You can just email back and say you applied by mistake.
