NYU Sophomore, ask me anything.

if youre accepted into LSP can you transfer into another school during your freshman year or do you have to complete the 2-year program?

Another school meaning a different college? Should be doable, only thing to take into consideration is that you aren’t in a 4 year program and they might look down on that.

hey, can you please tell me if I can apply for nuy if I weren’t a us resident

Newbie,

I’m pretty sure you can, there are plenty of international students. You’ll need a student visa though.

Do I have to take the SAT and/or ACT as a transfer applicant? And is remedial math required for higher math courses if I do poorly on a math placement test?

Are the SAT and/or ACT tests required for a transfer applicant?

No, I meant another school within nyu

also, by any chance do you know how competitive the MCC major pool is for Steinhart? would you recommend applying directly to Steinhart if your stats arent as strong or to CAS instead?

Hey, I applied early for math major!

Is math major really competitive?

If I won some achievements in math, would that really help?

Like, I passed the AMC12, and took AIME. Also I did well in regional math league.

Oh my gpa is 3.9, and SAT is 2030 with low reading and high math.

and two high sat II scores.

Thanks!

HI,
Does NYU ask for junior year transcript?
If yes then when will they ask for it? While i apply or after i graduate!

Dah, they need the whole high school transcript

hey, I like the idea of helping other NYU applicants, if I get in I’m planning to do the same
Please Chance Me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1413059-chance-me-nyu-stern-edii-pls.html

Hi man,

I want to transfer to NYU as a sophomore. I’m now an international student studying in America. Can I waive SAT score?

Thank you~

Do you know which clubs/bars don’t card?

Violetbit,

I am not in Steinhardt nor in LSP so I can’t really comment. If you want to transfer from LSP to another college within NYU, I don’t think you can. To the best of my knowledge, the purpose of the program is to prepare you and then it gives you guaranteed admission into whatever NYU college you want.

As far as MCC goes, I have absolutely no idea.

Acesmattb,

I have no idea on their transfer policy. If you’re an american student, I think your scores are valid for a couple years, if you’re an international student I don’t THINK they’ll make you take them, especially if you’re already in college (the tests would be trivial…).

As far as the math goes, yes. If you do not do well on the placement test you do no qualify to take harder math classes so you will have to take “remedial” courses. It’s only logical.

I do not believe CAS offers anything below precalculus however, they call it “Algebra and Calculus”.

Sikjw1305,

Congrats fellow math major! I’m only at the very beginning of the major so I can’t really say but I would say that, no, not really. Granted, some of the “best” minds steer towards math but not a lot of people choose math at all so it’s a relatively small major regardless. NYU doesn’t really care about your chosen major when you apply, you can always change it. If you have achievements in math, I’m pretty sure you’ll get accepted and then you can be happily on your way to declare a math major.

Nyusternie2016,

I have no idea what you’re asking me. A junior year transcript for when you transfer in as a senior?

Based on what you wrote, I assume you’re asking me about Graduate Stern admissions. I’m an undergraduate at CAS, you are asking the wrong person.

Donald,

I like that we share a common interest of helping others but I can’t chance you, mainly because I’m not in stern and I have absolutely no idea, particularly not about ED. Good luck though.

Lejialang,

You’er asking a very specific admissions question. I’m not a transfer student nor an international student, I really have no way of knowing. I’ll look at the transfer website when I get the chance tomorrow but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to answer you question. You should try emailing the admissions department or the office for international students.

Wanderlustful,

I am appalled you would ask this! sheesh! Just kidding.
I don’t have a lot of experience with bars and stuff because most of them DO card and they are expensive, a lot of the drinking gets done at dorms (discreetly), at random warehouse parties in brooklyn, or in the apartments of upperclassmen you become friends with.

Having said that, I regularly frequent two “bars” and have never been carded.

Sigma Burger Pi (3rd st and laguardia, behind kimmel essentially) - Kind of a trashy college place. Cheap beer, great mozzarella burgers, and packed with freshmen and sophomores. Ran into one of the sprouse twins here.

The boxcar lounge - Over on alphabet city. Tiny little bar but nice, not the cheapest but it’s nice for a quiet night out with a couple of friends.

Again though, I end up doing a looooooot of drinking in the dorms (with discretion, you don’t get written up).

Best of luck!

Hi okay so I’m a freshman at villanova university and currently have 4 As and 1 b plus. I want to transfer to NYU steinhardt school In high highschool I had a 4.31 GPA on a 4 point scale I had a 2100 on my sats I was the president of my class 4 years I volunteered, played field hockey and was in national honors society and French honors society president. I’m SO worried that I won’t get accepted into NYU steinhardt an that ill have to stay at Villanova. What are my chances!??

Sent from my iPhone

I have a question, I’m currently filling out my application and I was curious about one of the options.

For 4B it says:
“If, after reviewing your application, we are unable to offer you admission to the school, college, or program you have selected and we believe another school, college, or program at NYU may be a better fit based on your qualifications, would you like to be considered for admission to another school, college, or program?”

If I check yes will that hurt my chances of getting into the school I actually want? I’m applying to the College of Arts and Sciences. I really want to go to NYU but here’s my thought process:

If I check “yes”, when it comes down to it if they end up liking my application they may admit me to a different college allowing someone else who checked “no” to take my spot

If I check “no” I might not get in at all when I otherwise could have…?

Any thoughts?
