Hi guys!

I'm applying to NYU CAS for Spring 2014 as a transfer student. I was wondering if you could offer some advice and/or tell me my chances of getting in.

I'm a junior year transfer applicant.
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.92 (3.933 at the end of the semester. I got ONE B! In Spanish! UGH)
Credits: 53 but will have 60 at the end of this semester
EA: Community service every summer for 3 years and I have had an amazing research internship for 6 months. I have also worked a full-time job through school.
I'm a member of Phi Theta Kappa, I'm a Dean's list recipient, and I'm graduating with highest honors.
I have 3 amazing recommendation letters: One from an instructor, one from my advisor, and one from my internship.
Strong essay and personal statement.
Not sending in SAT/ACT scores.

Negatives:
I'm coming from a Community College, I have 3 Ws (my most recent is being petitioned), I'm an older student (23), and I have my GED instead of a high school diploma.
Even though I have enough credits for my high school transcripts to be overlooked, will this still affect my chances?

Does anyone have a similar background? I hope someone can provide me with some peace of mind whether positive or negative! Any help would be appreciated.

Otherwise, good luck to everyone!

Bump. I’d really like some sort of response. Anyone?

Hi leigh1011!

I think you have a pretty good chance! You have a great GPA, and with strong essays and 3 letters of recommendation you should be fine! The only thing I think could even be a little debatable is the GED. Good luck to you!! Here are my stats. I would like the know my chances as well.

Applying for CAS. Planning on double-majoring in news and public health.
Reason for transferring as asked in the Common Application essay: Current University doesn’t offer any kind of health major. My goal is to become a health reporter. In order to do this I must transfer schools.
GPA: 3.857
Extracurricular: Involved in more than 10 activities at my university including leadership in a few. Also a member of 5 different honors organizations.
I’ve made either the Dean’s or Presidents list every semester of college.
Great essays. Got them proofread by an admissions counselor at my current university. Said they were great!
3 letters or rec. One from my advisor, One from the head broadcast news teacher at my school, and one from my high school principal.
I have 71 Credits, BUT 12 of those will not transfer. NYU doesn’t accept college credit that was earned in high school. Also am an fashion merch minor at current school, so those classes wont transfer. Should have about 57 transferable hours. Im a junior now but would transfer as a sophomore. Which is fine with me!!
Not applying for financial aid; i don’t qualify. I know NYU hates giving out aid haha.
Not submitting SAT/ACT
Currently attend a school in texas. We have one of best programs of journalism in the state which may look good on the application. Have never made anything lower than a B in any class.

I am DYING OF NERVOUSNESS. I want to get in soooo bad!! Can anyone tell me my chances??!

Hi guys! What do you think my chances are?
I’m a sophomore at a large public flagship. I am applying to transfer into CAS for economics. My HS GPA was 3.8
College GPA is 3.6 (3.75 with current semester’s grades)
I did the NYU precollege in HS and got straight As.
5 on AP Macroeconomics
4.00 economics GPA (4 classes) including one graduate class

Cons: My current declared major is health information management. My school’s Econ department sucks at job placement so…I want to transfer

I only took 14 hours both semesters of my freshman year. My second semester I took 2 one hour workout classes. One for swimming and one for weight lifting. I really hope that those classes do not effect my chances of getting in. Basically I only took 12 hours of real classes.

I also don’t have any job experience in the economics field.

I don’t think NYU accepts junior applicants for the spring. You should check with them and see if they will accept your application.

Nvm I was talking to some people and I think they do! Good luck!

They do. @teamawesomese

Hi all! I submitted my application about a week ago.

HS GPA: 94 (we did it out of 100, don’t ask me why!)
SAT: 2130
Subject tests : US History: 650 ; Biology M: 730
Current school: Tulane University
Current year: sophomore
Applying to: Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality Management
EC: theater, dance classes, assistant choreographer for children’s theater, staff writer on college and high school newspapers, Campus programming board, university honors program, Sleepaway Camp counselor job, volunteer intern at independent bookstore, intern with fashion PR company (worked at NY Fashion Week)

I am currently on a semester long full time internship at the Walt Disney World Resort. From my experience here I’ve decided that I’m extremely interested in the Hospitality field, but Tulane doesn’t offer Hospitality Management as a major. My essay discusses all the reasons why I’m interested in transferring to study this new subject based on my experience working at Disney.

I know this isn’t a popular school to apply to, so I’m wondering what my chances are like. Thanks!
