NYU Spring 2018 Transfer Thread

Hey guys,

I’m applying for admission for the Spring 2018 as a transfer student to NYU.

College: Chicago Community College
GPA: 3.93
Major: Economics & Political Science
ECs: President of 2 clubs, tutor, manager at my job
SAT Scores: Not sending because I’ve completed 40 credits to pass the waiver.
HS GPA: 3.36 (Not so good, but huge increase every year from freshman to senior year)

Anyone else transferring in Spring 2018 and anxious to get their decision? Can someone chance me?

*Made this because I didn’t see another thread!

Hey, thank you for making this thread! I’ve been looking for a Spring 2018 Transfer thread for weeks & didn’t want to make one myself. Are you applying to CAS? Your stats look pretty good honestly, but I’m just as anxious as you to get my decision. :frowning:

I’m also applying for the spring semester to Tandon as a Computer Engineering major. I’m especially nervous because I just very recently changed my major from Nursing (which I know is extremely different from computer engineering), so I haven’t taken any pre-reqs for that. *I switched majors for family reasons.

My stats are:
College GPA: 3.92 (California community college)
*Since I was a pre-nursing major I followed the necessary courses for that major, so the only science and math classes I have completed are: Stats (B), Intro to Chem (A), and Anatomy (A)
EC’s: ICC Representative for STEM Club, member of Computer Science/Computer Engineering Club and Psych Club. Volunteering at an animal clinic & working part-time for Amazon.
HS GPA: 3.0. (I know it’s really bad lol; faced some personal issues. Improved drastically senior year)
I have 2 strong letter of recommendations from my Anatomy professor & my Chem professor.
I also believe my personal statement is pretty strong, but I’m still working on both essays!

Good luck to everyone by the way!

Great stats! @ggbass would you be interested in sharing each other’s personal statements and Why NYU questions? I think it’d be great to see what we wrote! I think you have a strong chance to get in!

@EconDon23 Thank you, same to you! Definitely! I’m not sure how to PM on here, but if there’s any other way we could contact each other I would be up for that

Hey guys! I’m applying to CAS as a Pre-Law student.
I took a gap year and have worked at four law firms, all in different countries. (Boston, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan). I speak four languages as my father is Saudi and my mother is Spanish-Pakistani. I currently attend community college in Boston because during my gap year I worked to expand my mother’s business in Europe and I’m continuing the expansion along the East Coast so a CC gave me the flexibility to do that.
HS GPA: 3.5 (not the best but I went to a boarding school)
Current GPA: 3.87
I have two really great recommendations and an additional one sent from my current boss. I have a positive feeling, but we can never be too sure! I wish you all luck!

Finally a transfer thread! Anyone know the stats are for the spring transfer for nyu?

No! @Isingh1347 Would you mind sharing your statistics?

@EconDon23 Sure! I am applying to Tandon with 29 credits and 41 at the end of the semester at a community college and my major is Electrical Engineering.

My stats:
HS GPA: 3.6 UW
College GPA: 3.6
Midterm Report: 4 Science/Math Classes with straight As.
ECs: Probably the best part of my app. I interned at a small electrician company and the big one is my internship at ConEdison. I do have some jobs that don’t relate to my major such as restaurant cashier. I also have tons of volunteer work from my local temple.
Reccomendations: Probably the weakest part of my app. This is actually my first full-time semester at college and it has been kinda hard to get to know my professors since it has been only a couple of months so I had to get a reccomendation from my high school teacher. I did however get a recommendation from my ConEd supervisor.
Writing Supplements: I thought they turned out pretty good. My transfer essay provides a solid reason on why I want to transfer. My Why NYU essay has lots of mention of when I visited their open house and info session, so I feel like they know that I am definitely interested in their school.

Hi! I’m applying to CAS as econ and math/ sophomore
My situation:
HS GPA: 3.81 China
College GPA: 3.82 Rutgers (business school), 42 credits complete, 60 credits at the end of this semester dean lists. 4.0 last spring and summer semester
Midterm Report: 5 German/Econ/Business class with straight As.
Recommendations: one from my department chair and one from my German teacher who teaches me for consecutive two semesters.
Writing Supplements: I feel its pretty good. Probably the best essay I have ever done.
super anxious, can anyone give me some advice? Thanks a lot!

It’s intimidating to see the stats of some of the applicants for Spring 2018! I submitted my application a few days ago along with my high school transcript and college transcript. Needless to say, there is a part of me that is nervous and excited. I graduated HS and got my AS in Biology in May of 2015 and let me tell you, applying and waiting for a response from a university is such a thrill!

HS GPA: 3.52
HS Rank: 61/493

College: South Texas College
GPA: 3.07
Earned hours: 68 (Around 50 were completed while I was in high school)

ECs listed: (Most were in HS since I took around two years off from school)
Sentinel, Historian, Treasurer, and Vice President of HOSA (State qualifier: 1st year; National qualifier: 2nd & 3rd year)(HS)
Secretary and President of FCCLA (State qualifier: year 2; National qualifier: year 1)(HS)
National Honor Society (HS)
Historian of Student Council (HS)
President of the Communications Club (College)
Volunteer at my local hospital (Over 300 hours since 2013)

Work (paid):
Brand Representative at Abercrombie Kids, November 2015-Present
Sales & Support Generalist at Victoria’s Secret, May 2017-Present
Substitute Teacher for a school district, Feb 2016-Present

The strengths of my application is definitely on my ECs, stable part-time jobs, personal statements, and HOPEFULLY letter of recommendation. I only submitted one letter of recommendation from my organic chemistry professor whom I was able to make a genuine connection with. Hopefully his recommendation was sincere and honest because I would like to think I am very involved during lecture and lab.

(If anyone would like to take a look at my personal statements and swap essays, please feel free to message me!)

Good luck to everyone applying and make sure to come back to tell us your response. If I’m not accepted this time around, I’m definitely going to retake some courses I got C’s on so my gpa is over a 3.4 or 3.5 for when I’m ready to reapply for the fall.

@treyskywalkerrr I’d love to swap with you! Message me your email address or something so we can share each others statements

Same! @treyskywalkerrr I would love to swap! PM me!

@EconDon23 I can swap with you as well if you’d like!

Hello! I’m hopefully applying to Tandon. I’m also an international student
Major I’m applying for: CS
Current major: Software Engineering
HS GPA: 3.71 (ugh)
College GPA: 3.96
ECS: Volunteer work, clubs at HS, part of a student association at my current university.
Recommendation letters: One from my programming professor and one from my electromagnetism professor

did everyone submit their applications??

me me me

Does anybody know if the odds are higher of being accepted to CAS for a spring vs a fall transfer?

I’d guess that it is actually harder, rather than easier.

does anyone know when they usually start sending out decisions??

I’m not too confident about my stats but here goes.
School: CAS
Major: Psychology
ACT: 26/27
GPA HS: 3.6 UW / 4.5 W
GPA college: 3.6
College: FIU
EC: Phi Sigma Sigma member, involved in 3 clubs in high school, did my senior year early at community college
Excellent recommendation letter and strongly recommended on college report!
Thoughts? I’m nervous :frowning:
