NYU Spring in New York...

Hey All,

I currently attend a local University where I am a "Presidential Scholar" and through a combination of this scholarship and other forms of financial aid and scholarships, I have a "full ride." I applied for this program at NYU (NYU Spring in New York), and just received notice that I was accepted!!

I am SUPER HAPPY about getting accepted, because I always kind of regretted not applying to a more "prestigious" school and branching out (doing something more). etc...

Well, what I am asking is...

Is it worth the money?

I would only go to NYU for the spring semester, sort of like a "domestic study abroad"... I would return to my current university...

I added NYU to my list of schools on my FAFSA form, and hope to receive some sort of financial aid...

but the total cost of the program ranges from 25,000 to 30,000

Should I take the hit (wallet).. and just DO IT!...

I would most likely have to take out a BIG loan... around 20/25,000

I figure, I would take the hit and when I return to my current university, use my "extra money/refund" to begin paying loan? get me?

What do YOU think?

THANKS

Michael

why would you want to do a domestic study abroad program? Just hop on a plane and visit NY.

I can't think of any reason to take out an enormous loan to spend spring semester in NY. If you like NY, go there for spring break, go to grad school there or relocate there after graduation.

I agree with the other posters - it is hard to imagine how one semester in New York is worth going into such debt for. And why not do an actual study abroad experience? If your school participates in one of the reciprocal programs you could do a semester study abroad for a lot cheaper than this one semester in New York. At my daughters school her scholarships and financial aid still can be used during study abroad.

Go abroad instead!

Yeah, I would only do that if I was going to study in Buenos Aires, Madrid, Beijing, etc. Not NYC. Just go there on spring break.
