I am deciding between NYU's Steinhardt and UCSD! I plan to major in communication/econ. I also plan to go to grad school after 4 years of undergrad.

I think NYU's Steinhardt has a more prestigious name overall, however, is it possible for me to transfer to CLAS from Steinhardt? Because if it's extremely difficult, I might go to UCSD for I got into the main campus (Muir) already.

Cost is really not an issue. I'm out of state for UCSD so there's not too much of a difference.

Another thing that's been holding me back about NYU is that I'm really intimidated by the campus, which is pretty urbanized. I also prefer the Southern California atmosphere, culture, and weather a lot more!

Any opinions would be great! Thank you for your time :)

How come you didn't choose a school in Pennsylvania? Aren't there a few reputable universities out there also? Is it really worth it to go to UCSD as an out of state student and having to pay the hefty out of state fee for all 4 years? UCSD is a great school and great deal for in-state students, but very few people from other states come out here to go to UCSD. Any reason why you want to come out here?

ucsd is known for being strong in the sciences, not communications/eco. with that said, i'd choose the other school if it is better in communications/eco. urbanized would mean there would be more opportunity for working in that IMO

You have to ask yourself what type of atmosphere you would prefer. NYU is a city university while UCSD is a campus university.

Given that, if i were you, i would choose NYU; not only is the school located in one of greatest cities in the world but also their program for your major is better than UCSD's. Also, you'd be getting private school attention, whereas at UCSD you will not (sans the Freshman Seminars/Sections) ; a lot of GE classes have 200+ students. Class size and professor-student relationship will get better in Upper Division/Major classes, but not as good as it would be at a private school.
