My friend just got in.

White Male from NY
One of the top private schools in the state
SAT: 2110
GPA: 3.5 UW
7 APs
Fantastic and beyond genuine essays.
With merit and aid, he will be paying $15k/year.
Applied ED.

I felt lonely cause there are no other Shanghai people on here so since I applied to Stern as well.
I was accepted to Shanghai! It didn’t tell me about stern however, so I guess I will never know. Im not losing any sleep over it however Anyways my general stats are:

GPA: 3.73uw/4.22w
ACT: 32
RANK: 23/522

Yeah, so hi!

Just got my ED1 decision back from NYU Stern. Stern was of course my top choice, though because I’m not exactly a 2400 SAT-type student, I was really quite worried. I will post my stats for future reference if it helps anyone. By the way… Math is not my greatest subject, so just know that if you’re like me, there’s still hope for Stern.

Hispanic Male, NY
Private Christian School
SAT: M:600, CR:710, W:740 (writing is of course not looked at)
GPA: about a 90 out of 100… school doesn’t use 4.0 scale, not sure how to convert
2 Senior year APs
Rank: N/A
College Microeconomics course over summer
Essays: Probably the reason I got in

I also have some interesting things I do outside of school that probably helped as well.

Good luck to anyone applying in the future!

hey guys let’s make a fb group for nyu stern class of 2017!

Can you all please post your rough stats! I am an ED2 applicant and just want to get a rough perspective on where i stand!

I am not the brightest student… so here goes
GPA: 3.7
SAT:2090 M:700 C:710 W:680
EC: FBLA 4 years (placed 3rd in economics and 2nd in a stock market game)
Started entrepreneur club (founder and president)
Student Council SAB (student advisory board)
Robotics Club (treasurer)
Varsity Track and Field (REASON WHY I GOT IN)
Honors Society
Recs: All great from Physics, econ and counselor
Essays: Strong

I got recruited to their track team. Basically if I have any advice, do a sport and be good at it.

attended an open house last weekend for accepted students at NYU Stern class of 2017. The dean stated that the class will be 550 students and 8500 students applied, translating to an acceptance rate of under 6.5 percent.

I will correct you again. The acceptance rate will be about 14-15% to get a class size of 550 because some people will not attend, so they need to accept about 1,200 kids.

Congrats everybody.

Anyways, I copy and pasted this from the 2017 NYU decisions thread, which is why it’s so long-winded.

lol, if it really is 15%, then stern is catching up with cornell lol

Hey do you guys know if NYU offers many scholarships?

Many? No…but there are several scholarships awarded for both merit and need.

Asian Male, CA Public School

SAT: M:780, CR:720, W:750
GPA: 4.5 W 3.9 UW
Rank: Top 1%
EC: A few leadership positions in School clubs, Significant amount of community service, Small Internships here and there
Essay: Average

IMO, Stern is one of the more predictable schools in terms of acceptance. I think having an SAT of 2200+, a class rank of around top 10-15%, and a wide array of EC’s that demonstrate diverse interests guarantees acceptance.

Asian Male, CA Public School

SAT: 1600/1600
GPA 4.35 W 3.86 UW
AP: 12 APs including the 2 this year (5 calc ab, 5 calc bc, 5 chem, 5 bio, 4 apec, 4 apush, 4 spanish, 3 physics mech, 3 physics e+m, 5 psych)
Rank: 30/550~
EC: Officer positions in a few academic clubs (quizbowl, science olympiad coach, academic league) and in-school tutor
Essays: I’m going to be honest, some of my essays were pretty crappy, my why NYU essay basically said I love the city. I wrote an essay about Pulp Fiction and I think it was pretty good

also i got 54k Stern Scholarship and 6k Pell grant so like the guy above me said, it’s based fairly heavily on stats and EC

congrats to you guys all! :D

future hopeful that I will get in to Stern.

Any one here from Canada? :D

^Hey! I am from Canada! Currently a grade 11 junior and wishes to get into Stern next year. cross fingers

NYU is definitey one of my top choices to apply, congratulations to those who made their ways there! Hope you guys have a wonderful campus life in NY

What will you be guys studying as major?

I hope to get into the Stern BPE program OR Finance.

But honestly any major from Stern I will be happily take it and run :)

I heard the BPE program is one of the most amazing programs at Stern. I actually have a friend got in with decent stats. (Never realize my grammarical errors from my last post, sigh) Anyway, good luck to you :)

Lol, you don’t have to apply for Stern Finance, just apply to Stern, and you can choose your major once you’re in.

And @stillasstudent, I will probably be studying Finance/Management, along with some pre-med courses.

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you have any more questions =p
