NYU(Stern chances)?

I finally received my class rank today and all the other official stuff needed.

Asian (Indian) male from NJ(OOS)

GPA (unweighted): 3.75, weighted is 3.83

Class rank: Top 19%(OUCH)

1 Honors and 1AP: Calculus AB(5 on exam)

SAT I:
new SAT: I am taking them in October, got a 1280(M + V) in June, but have practiced a lot since then and I think I am in position to get at least a 1400 (M+V) since I have been scoring around there in the blue book

Activities & Awards:
Eagle Scout
Cross Country

NHS
FBLA
Chess Club
Italian Club

Work experience:
Dollar World for 1 year
Cost Cutters- working currently

I think I have have an above average essay and great teacher recs.

I plan to go into business. I think NYU Stern is a huge reach, but here is my scheduale for senior year(the bulk of it):
AP Computer Science
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C
AP Italian 5
AP Statistics
Oracle 2- Honors

I know it's a reach for me, but is it possible if I do well for 1st semester in senior year and send midyear report(or 1st marking period report since my school does that), I have a chance? OR should I just go for regular NYU.

Thanks

i think you should go for regular nyu, which is prolly a bit of a reach for you too, i think stern could be unattainable sorry

it'll be tough for you. i was from nj, higher gpa than you, higher sats, high sat 2's, higher rank, AND recruited for tennis and i got put in the general studies program. so i'll eventually be in stern in 2 years.

I forgot SATIIs: Math IIC- 800, Physics- Taking in November

If I can get my SATs up to around 1400 M+V(What I have been scoring on the blue book), and send in my Midyear report which I am working my butt off for all As, should I still try for Stern or just go NYU.

If you really want to go, apply!

I got into Stern with a 1280 SAT I, a 3.5 unweighted GPA, working for my dad, and two extracurriculars (community service & piano lessons). I had a hard senior year course load, like yours, but my grades weren't the best. The only thing I really had going for me was an awesome essay and good letters of rec.

I think what you have far exceeds that.

If Stern is the place you want to be, go for it. Don't let the statistics get you down, and definitely don't let the other responses get you down.

If a sub-par resume like mine can get in, you should, too.

Oh, and I was in about the 24% of my HS class

DavidJewlian did you get into Stern last year? Who did you get your letter of recommendation from?

DavidJewlian brightens my day, good luck all! He has the luck of the Irish or the Jewish???? haha

what do you mean by "OR should I just go for regular NYU."?

stern is a bit more selective, try CAS

I'm in the Stern class of 2008, entered in fall of 2004, if that answers your question
