Very interested in business, although I have no experience in it - I never found opportunities to explore 'businessy' stuff. My parents are both entrepreneurs and business owners though. Does not having anything to do with business ruin my chances for NYU stern.

I know that asking for aid will significantly reduce my chances - my parents don't want me to ask for aid, but I just can't imagine spending 60k a year... i have 3 other siblings who still need to go to college lol. I visited the campus this past spring and it made me love the school even more. I love how it is so integrated with the city and everything is so fast paced... that being said, do I stand a chance?

thanks guyss

I think you can honestly get in but if you don’t want to pay there a plenty of good business schools in Canada, unless you are planning to stay in NY after you graduate.

@longislandkid123 thanks! you really think so??? I’m worried about my IB scores… and my lack of outstanding ECs. I hope to work in NYC after I graduate, and possible attend columbia for my MBA.

anyone else? :)

1.) NYU is notorious for not giving aid. Plan on spending $60K per year.
2.) You shouldn’t really plan on working in NYC after graduation because work visas/sponsorships are few, limited and far between, and first choice goes to kids that are citizens or permanent residents. You’ve picked a business major which a number of US kids do well in.

The link above is a thread I posted as a high school senior. I think you are in a similar scenario as I was in a year ago( I’m a freshman already). NYU is obviously stingy in terms of int’l financial aid, with high-interest loans only for Chinese candidates like me(not so sure about the policies for Canadians but they shouldn’t be too different as the stringent financial budgets of NYU mean less $$ for all int’ls). If you really would like to go for NYC, do put the expenses into consideration. Moreover, biz majors are all highly competitive, since many American candidates also pursue such tracks in their undergrad years. I don’t think you are gonna make the cut given your lack of business-related ECs(which are so crucial for entry into American-biz schools at an undergrad level).

I would suggest, on the other hand, that you should consider some decent schools at home. There are obviously many good biz schools in Canada, and you may think of other options afterwards. Good luck.

@aunt bea so my chances of working in the US in general only increases if I can get a green card? And about the money, I know that NYU is pretty stingy but I can always hope - anyway, I can turn down their ED2 acceptance if they don’t provide enough aid right?

@bbff1234 oh wow your stats are amazing! which school did you end up going to? The business related ECs thing I tried so hard to do something, but there are just no opportunities! there are more science focused ECs here because apparently everyone wants to be doctors lol.

any other opinions? :D

@aimhigh333 I’m now at HKU(A top school in Asia) with a great scholarship as a STEM candidate. It interests me a lot that you are not applying to STEM majors given your interests in and focus on math. US schools always emphasize on ECs and your personal experiences, as well as their relevance to your proposed major on the application form. In most cases, pure interests simply are not enough - you have to do something that really shows your interest.

yeah I have taken the non traditional asian route of going into business lol. i have no interest in being a doctor or engineer.
