Hey guys,
So I have been fortunate enough to get into both NYU Stern and UC Berkeley L&S. At first, I thought paying 50k/yr to attend Berkeley was a no-brainer. I would have to take substantial loans but thought its programs were worth it. However, soon after, I was fortunate enough to receive an email from NYU Stern saying that I received a merit scholarship for 40k/yr, meaning I would barely pay 30k/yr for Stern allowing me to graduate college debt free as my parents can afford this.

So if I studied finance at Stern with a double major with comp sci, would it give me comparable opportunities to studying comp sci at UC Berkeley L&S if I hope to work in either financial services or even tech companies?
Also, campus isn't too big of a worry as I do like NYC, but Cal also has a very beautiful campus.

Thank you in advance!

Also, how tough would it be to gain in state status for UC Berkeley by the end of freshman year/ beginning of sophomore year so I only would pay OOS fees for Berkeley for 1 year?

Carpetbagging California residency is generally very difficult.

Although NYU is not known for affordability, in your case, it appears to be the more affordable option. In addition, if you want to work in Wall Street, NYU Stern seems to be a decent place to be. However, check if there are any college GPA requirements to keep the scholarship. Some NYU scholarships require a 3.5 college GPA to keep.

Berkeley obviously has the local advantage to small Silicon Valley companies. But if “substantial loans” are more than the federal direct loans, that is a reason to be hesitant. Berkeley L&S CS does require a 3.0 prerequisite GPA to declare, and Berkeley Haas business has a competitive admissions process that normally needs a higher GPA (and, while investment banks do recruit at Berkeley, they appear to be very selective among Berkeley applicants).
