NYU Stern - Prereqs must be done before applying?

<p>I was interesting in transferring into NYU Stern, and I've heard that they are extremely strict about people completing all the pre-reqs before transfer. </p>

<p>My question is:</p>

<p>Do you have to complete them all before applying, or can they be in progress the spring before transferring. The only ones I'll have in progress is Manegerial Accounting and Stats. Do they REALLY care that much about stats</p>

<p>Idk but i had all of the pre reqs done besides accounting and i had 6 credits of accounting that i took in h.s plus a 3.7 h.s gpa and a 3.97 college gpa from a 4 year private school and a 640 math 640 cr sat score and was still rejected. also i had great hooks and great essays. i got into cornell aem and northwestern cas for econ but i guess the pre reqs are mandatory. and waitlisted for university of chicago</p>

If you show planned completion of the prerequisites you should be fine. However, to not put yourself in that spot always try taking the prerequisites as earliest as possible. If you’re transferring in 2 years than try taking those prerequisites in the 3 semesters prior, rather than taking them in the spring semester of your last year where the admissions decisions are being sent out.

Well you do have to complete all the prerequisites eventually. What I meant to say was try completing them all before the Spring. For example: (This is a 2 year transferee.)</p>

<p>First year at your Institution:</p>

<p>Semester 1:

• Course X
• Course Y
• Expository Writing
• Financial Accounting</p>

<p>Semester 2:

• Course A
• Course B
• Managerial Accounting
• Calculus I</p>

<p>Second Year at your Institution</p>

<p>Semester 3:

• Course Alpha
• Course Beta
• Statistics
• Microeconomics</p>

<p>Then you would send your application in. This is the best scenario since the Adcoms are not depending/wondering how you will do on the prerequisites because you have already completed them all.</p>

<p>Semester 4:

• Whichever classes (& and it won’t matter because they’re not prerequisites. Meaning you have freedom in picking your courses.)</p>

<p>However, you might be able to complete the classes in that time order or whatever the reason so it might look like this instead:</p>

<p>Semester 3:

• Course Alpha
• Course Beta</p>

<p>Send your application in with the your Spring Courses. This is showing planned completion.</p>

<p>Semester 4:

• Statistics
• Microeconomics</p>

<p>This can also work however now you’re leaving doubt in the Adcom’s mind because they do not have the whole picture. I’m not saying this is not acceptable but the first scenario is the best one out of the 2. Of course they can accept you but if you do not complete the planned courses then your admission would most likely be rescinded.</p>

<p>Remember you also have the additional information section to describe why you couldn’t complete the course for whatever reason.</p>
