Is NYU offering scholarships based on merit this year? I heard in recent years they have given a good amount of scholarships to students for academic excellence in high school.

The official line is no.

So then what's the unofficial line? ;)

I don't know - people say they've gotten merit aid, but usually it ends up sounding like NYU just met financial need and called it a scholarship and people are just confused about the naming.

I got a scholarship that exactly covered what my EFC didn't (and this was back 4 years ago before Stern abolished merit aid - and the other kids who got scholarships got like a couple thousand, nothing huge). Thankfully, NYU doesn't decrease the scholarship it gives you if you get outside scholarships (which made NYU actually affordable for me).

I see no reason to be skeptical of Stern's official line, since it's pretty obvious that people would find out if they were lying. So yeah, don't get your hopes up. At all.

hey nyu offers $25k in scholarship based on merit this year to many applicants.

i got $15,300 for stern (scholars). it doesn't meet my EFC.

coolnyu: NYU in general probably did, but we're talking about Stern specifically. If you have any specific examples though, feel free to bring them up... I obviously don't have financial aid data for the entire incoming freshman class.

youkosiren: hey i have benn accepted to stern, and i am given 25K for rudin scholar, aka stern scholar.

Congrats on the scholarship, but Rudin Scholar != Stern Scholar. If you mean the Rudin City Scholars thing, that's an NYU-wide scholarship program, not a scholarship given out by Stern and not associated with the Scholars program. If you were admitted to Stern Scholars, that's a totally separate thing.

Re: youkosiren.
yeah, then i dont think stern school gives me any money =(

Hello Friends,
I am considering Stern for my Business School next year. And before I decide upon it, I would need some information on the school that i m unable to find at the school's web site. I was wondering if anyone who is currently studying at Stern (or is a Alumni) would be able to help me with that.
I would appreciate every help in this regard.

Thanks,

err, can't give you any help if you don't ask a question...

NYU doesn't generally give money, when it does, it's circa 15,000. What I noticed is alot of people here are upper middle class who have no problem taking out loans that parents can pay or have parents who can pay the bill. And at the same time people who complain about how poor they are and how many loans they take out yet go to a ridiculously expensive school. There are people in the middle too but they don't complain.
