I'm asking this out of curiosity and possible interest.
Anyone here is in the hotel school? I'm a freshman at NYU Stern, but I'm not sure that I want to go into Finance anymore. This is really a struggle. I am interested in hospitality and management. Right now, it's probably too late to transfer into the fall semester.

Would sophomore year spring be too late? Anyone with advice or suggestions?
Thanks.

I don't think it's too late. I had a friend come in junior year...he was a bio major at his old school and transferred into Hotel. He did just fine...but did have to stay an extra semester

Any more information on School of Hotel Administration itself?
oh, by the way, "too late" means for the fall 2008 term, since the deadline is in 2 days.

haha....I'm not a hotelie....so I can't help you there :-)

ohh, they are called hotelies? In stern, we are sternies. haha

Any hotelies here?

Do you have a lot of GE's finished? If you have enough, you can probably transfer them into the distributive elective requirement and be able to graduate on time. Some people actually transfer in the first semester of junior year from a two year college (they have all of the distributive requirements finished as well as other hotel core classes like accounting, microcomputing, and econ), so you could be alright.

what if I took Financial accounting and econ already?

you'd be able to transfer those classes to fulfill those requirements

Would you say the alumni network is strong? and does the smaller size of the class help?

im not a hotelie- i just applied. however i have heard that the alumni network is ridiculously strong and amazing. granted, im kind of biased because i really want to be a hotelie, but still. i am friends with three hotelie alums and they have told me of all the help from alumni that they received when they graduated. and THEY helped me by writing me letters of recommendation.

in the industry, everyone knows cornell. therefore, the alumni network has to be strong...

I heard its pretty strong- they have the Cornell Hotel Society, which bascially every hotelie joins while at the hotel school. Theres a book in the library with all the alumni members + numbers+ emails+ current position+ location (its organized by zip code)...a pretty handy source.

Thanks, guys.
I'm definitely considering transferring.

ttsonnett,
You might be having a problem getting hotelies to reply as they are crunching thru Prelims before heading for break. As a parent of a soph hotelie I would definitely suggest you consider the move. Good luck in your decision and future studies

Thanks, I'm actually studying for midterms, too.
