NYU Stern transfer fall 2015

Hi everyone. I am currently a freshman at a SUNY college and hope to transfer into NYU's Stern school of business this coming fall 2015 semester. To illustrate my credentials, I am in the process of starting and becoming president of my institutions Financial Management Association, I'm a member of the Student govt association, hold a position of leadership in my schools Politics, economics, and law club, I'm a member of the academics committee, a member of the food committee, School of business deans list, Admitted to the honors college program for spring 2015, volunteer 6 hours a week, i also work at a paying job over the weekends, i attended greek school for 7 years(where i took and passed the greek regents). On a side not, after graduating college I attended trade school where I worked for an electrical contractor for a year, prior to deciding to enroll in college. My GPA is a 4.0 and I have a tremendous desire to transfer into Stern. I will be transferring as a rising sophomore and meet all the requirements for incoming sophomore transfers. At the time of transferring i will have 31 credits and in the process of taking another 16. As far as high school goes, my gpa was pretty average(somewhere around a 3.0-3.2/4), SAT(although I will be retaking it this december) 1500, ECs in high school were wrestling team, part time job, engineer program in NYC. Anybody who can offer me advice, insight, or their thoughts on my chances of getting accepted would be greatly appreciated!! Also, if you want to post your information, that would also be great. Thanks!

*after graduating high school I attended trade school…

fell free to post your credentials and academic profile, we’ll chance one another

@TedNicholas‌ Seems like you have a good chance. But your SAT’s score quite low for Stern and maybe incorporate something in your activities list that isn’t exactly related with school work. I think that would make you stand out more.

I’m mentioning Tango, Contemporary dance and soccer.

@nrivera12‌ thanks for the advice! i appreciate it. ill mention something along the lines of a sport or musical instrument as an outside of the classroom activity

I am a freshman trying to transfer to Stern (as sophomore in Fall 2015) and would like to know my chances and would also like some feedback! Here is my info :)

High School: I was among the top 1% of class and my ACT score was 33. As for the activities, I was President of English Honor Society, President of cultural society in my city, Class Vice President for Student Council, Vice President/Treasurer of Environmental Club, Secretary of Science Honor Society, member of Math honor society & National Honor Society, did some volunteer, and got involved in many musical ensembles (Youth symphony, All-State and National Orchestra).

College: I am currently going to a state school (among top fifty) and I’m in the honors program. I am expecting 4.00/4.00 GPA by end of first semester. I’m majoring in Economics and expected credit hour by end of freshman year is 32 without any AP credits applied to that (I have total of 22 AP credits earned). As for current activities, I am a board member of a business club on campus, board member of humanitarian organization, volunteer at local community 2 hours a week, and a section leader in the orchestra. Classes wise, I finished all the required and most of recommended courses for Stern (haven’t taken Financial Accounting). I think I can get a decent rec letter from one of my professors.

@hellokitty223‌ seems like you put forth a strong application. try enrolling in financial accounting before or during the time of your transfer application. keep in mind that we are competing for a limited number of spots and competing against students from top schools (wharton, northwestern, chicago, etc.) that have extraordinary recommendations, ECs, and that have completed all the required course work.

@TedNicholas‌ You’re welcome! Have you started writing CA essays? :smiley:

@hellokitty223 You seem like a really strong applicant!. Are you submitting SAT OR ACT scores?

@nrivera12‌ i’ve been meaning to get to it, but haven’t started yet. what about you?

@TedNicholas‌ I started writing here and there. But I recently stopped and I’ve been reading a really good book about wiring an essay, I know super lame but I need the extra info and guidance as essays in the US educational system are different from the essays I was used to in my home country. The book was recommended by a Brown admitted student.

do you have any work experience relative to finance or your major? @nrivera12‌

Well I just finished an Investment Banking course with a company that offers training IB training to NYU and Wharton. And I’m currently doing an internship with a well know Banker here in New York City. What about you? @TedNicholas‌

i will be interning in the accounting department of a non profit organization this coming winter. will you be applying for transfer anywhere else besides nyu? @nrivera12‌

The only schools I’m sure I’ll be applying to is NYU and Brown University. I’m thinking about applying to BU,Georgetown and Notre Dame, but I’m not 100% sure. I moved almost 2 years ago to NYC from the Dominican Republic and it just started to feel like home. I’m not sure I want to move again. I want to make decision thinking about my career but I must feel happy wherever I attend school.

What about you?

@TedNicholas‌

Besides NYU, I’ll be applying to UCLA, Cornell, Georgetown, Indiana University, and Carnegie Mellon @nrivera12‌ hopefully i get admitted into at least one of these schools

@TedNicholas‌ Whats your top choice?

Stern is my top choice and then Cornell @nrivera12‌ have you began your common app essay?

@nrivera12 I will be submitting my ACT score! My SAT was 2100 but subscore for reading was not so hot…haha so that’s why I’m submitting only ACT

@TedNicholas are you applying to Cornell AEM? or a different major
