NYU Stern Transfer to Dartmouth?

Hi,

I'm just starting my sophomore year as an undergrad at NYU. I'm in the Stern business program, studying Finance and Marketing, minoring in Creative Writing. My first year had its ups and downs and transferring has been on my mind for sometime now. When I graduated high school, over a year ago, I was put on Dartmouth's WL. Then there extended WL etc. Anyways, they closed the WL- encouraged me to try again, and I came to NYU. I had a tough time adjusting, but I love the city (though I'm from a small new england town). I think I'd be better off at Dartmouth (even UNC Chapel Hill or Duke-my family lives in NC).

Getting to the point, my GPA wasn't splendid and got taken down last sem, medical leave, illness and uncooperative profs. this sem is looking bright though. I've been involved in a lot of extracurriculars, got published (my photography and my writing), I got great internships and recommendations from my CEO and I'm now working at Merrill Lynch. So I'm a very intelligent guy, an excellent writer, a creative student-- my GPA hasn't come in yet I'm thinking from my first 2 semesters it'll come out to 3.1-3.3. After this sem I could get really close to or break 3.5.

Is Dartmouth a bit of a long shot?

Thanks :)

You are currently working at Merrill Lynch? In what function? Forget about transferring, just stick it out where you are, graduate, and get a job. No one cares where you went to college soon after you join the workforce.

By all means, give it a try if your heart is in it, but I would recommend that you stay where you are.

I concur, stay put in NYU Stern!

I’m in the same boat and I’m a freshman. I totally get what you might not like about Stern. I say apply and don’t care about how long of a shot it is.

D is a long shot just given the few transfers they take every year, the numbers are on their website.

This doesn’t have much to do with the topic of this post… but, what is it that you don’t like about Stern?

Hey I’m a sophomore at NYU as well looking to transfer out. I think that if Dartmouth encouraged you to try again as a (junior) transfer (in your case) then you should by all means go for it. You have nothing to lose by trying except the 65 or so dollars.

I think the fact you work for Merrill Lynch is a definite plus, but to be completely honest the GPA is killing you even if it’s Stern and you somehow pull off a 3.5. But you should go for it, just get killer recs and write essays that only you could write.

Chance me for transfer too? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1197739-transferring-nyu-need-opinions.html</a></p>

I would apply if its your first choice just know they took hardly any body last year as a transfer.
