NYU Stern Undergraduate Interview

Hello,
I’m applying to Stern ED2 for fall 2015.
Yesterday, I got an email saying NYU is interested and we would like to know more about you.
The interview is going to be a casual conversation with a sophomore.
Has anyone else received such an email? Are interviews at Stern occasional? What does this say about my admission chances?

I thought interviews were always pretty rare so if you do well, I think it will add a lot to your application and your chances.

NYU only does interviews with competitive applicants. This bodes well for you.

I really want to do well in my interview. The fact that NYU interviews are rare makes me nervous though!

May I ask wts your stats?

@Musktard‌ define competitive

@boobapenguin lol. That’s not for me to decide. If the NYU admissions office thinks you’re a competitive applicant, they will reach out and interview you. From my understanding, being offered an interview indicates that you have a decent chance of being accepted.

@Musktard‌ and if you dont get one a.k.a. me

@boobapenguin What? I’m going to assume that was a question.

If you’re not offered an interview, it doesn’t mean you won’t get in. It doesn’t mean anything. It just means the admissions office chose not to interview you. If you ARE offered an interview, it means you are a competitive applicant and the admissions office would like to get to know you better.

@Musktard‌ but its strange, ive never heard of student receiving interviews before. its fairly uncommon i suppose

@boobapenguin I mean I think it’s uncommon by virtue of NYU rejecting significantly more people than they accept. They don’t have the resources to interview every applicant so they can only interview the applicants they’re interested in. I was fortunate enough to be offered interviews for 2 of the campuses I applied to (Stern in NYC and Shanghai).

@Musktard‌ where are you from if you don’t mind me asking

@boobapenguin NJ, USA.

@Musktard‌ oh wow same, I’m kind of disappointed I was not offered an interview

@boogapenguin I was accepted in December. Not being offered an interview doesn’t mean you won’t be accepted. It just means you weren’t a competitive applicant they wanted to meet.
